    Super star? Oh come on.

The phone still looks bad for typing, the kb is so low on it.
That was my first thought. I keep thinking must feel weirdly balanced and I am not entirely sure how to place fingers and thumb without crooking the thumb a lot ( I was playing Air BB).

I understand what you are saying. Being a hero does involve courage, however, I think that courage involves some level of risk.

I simply don't see the courage that Chen has shown. He hasn't succeeded in turning around BlackBerry yet, and hasn't taken any personal risk in the venture. In fact he hasn't even moved to Canada and is instead flying back and forth on a multi-million dollar plane. If BlackBerry doesn't succeed he hasn't lost anything, and has been very well compensated.

While I agree "hero" is overused, I suppose it could be loosely applied if he saves BBRY (I am hedging on definition of "save"). However, it is far too early to say this and the irrational exuberance is premature, as it was here on CB with previous CEOs. So far I think JC is taking the right steps but really, nothing much has really changed yet. Don't set yourself up for equally irrational disappointment.

It's a little bit precious though. People use the word with reference to sportsmen, rock stars you name it. It doesn't mean they are comparing them to Horatius on the bridge.

It's just language and how it develops. A Canute like refusal to accept colloquial usage won't get you far and will just frustrate you.

Oh I know. And I don't think a rock star or professional athlete is a hero either.

Don't say JC didn't took risks.

He is a turn around specialist. There is a huge risk for him and his career if he fails to deliver. As a turn around specialist, a business leader he will lose his credibility in the market.

What he did for his previous company he is in a very good position to save BlackBerry. He is the hero of last quarter. Don't forget it's the first time BlackBerry gets positive media in relation to their quarterly numbers. Its an achievement and these numbers didn't come by itself.

That's not risk. He's making lots of money trying to turn around BlackBerry. More than enough so that he he doesn't succeed he will still live comfortably for the rest of his life. Furthermore, he will simplify make the claim that BlackBerry was too far gone to turn around and he will still be able to find work.

Most importantly he hash turned BlackBerry around yet. One quarter is nothing.

No.He have taken the role of a CEO of a troubled company and there is huge expectations from him which makes him walk on the edge in the tenure.

Yes every established professional in business comes with a cost. They are not doing charity. He could have got similar salary packages from other companies as well, but his decision to chose BlackBerry itself is a risk in his career (future career) .

A C level executive once failed will never by hired by big firms.Where is Mr Thor???

What is a die hard BlackBerry fan?

I'm a realist, who likes BlackBerry and hope they succeed. I've had nothing but BlackBerry devices since 2006, and quite like my Z10.

That being said I'm not fanatical and go around thinking that everything BlackBerry is the best and everything that isn't is crap. I think BlackBerry made their own bed and now have to sleep in it for a while until they can regain their footing. I don't think BlackBerry is where they are because of marketing or some conspiracy against them.

What awesome things has he done?

Are the financial troubles over? Nope.

Has BlackBerry regained market share? Nope.

Has BlackBerry released any new phones that have made any money or had reasonable sales? Nope.

Has BlackBerry stock changed considerably? Nope.

    Awesome indeed!

PS. The English professor says, "He have done awesome in that and wait for his next release," isn't English either.

When elephant walks dogs always bark. But they don't get the attention they seek for.

BlackBerry is for sure is in a much better shape now.Thats just because of the strategic management by Chen.

Hahah...so you expect a bedridden company to rule the world in 7 months time.It seems you are inspired by Hollywood movies. Telecommunications industry is not like avenger movie.

The heroic act of reviving a company is still not done completely .So far it have been a great run from day 1 Chen took over. People said BlackBerry died and all those people are witnessing the fight back and a positive last quarter.

No idea what any of that is supposed to mean!

You still have yet to name one awesome thing Chen has done. Or how about one way that it has been a great run since day one.

If by great you mean low stock price, phones that haven't sold, no market share. Then yes, it has been a great run.

These simply means you are not having any knowledge of what developments Chen have done from day 1 of his tenure. You can find these details online and if you would have been following BlackBerry you would have got a better Idea.

Elephant is John Chen. Some people for gaining attention do bash the company and good things happened. But these negative statements just remain here which will be viewed by only those who wrote it.

One thing out of many is BlackBerry is getting first time a positive media support in last 2+ years. You better know the reason for it.Yes it's just because of his strategic management.

I have enjoyed the back and forth on this thread...everybody is entitled to their own opinion. I think Chen is doing a great job, he seems like a realist. Taking the company and saying initially he thinks there is only a 50-50 chance of saving the 'patient' is pretty honest...didn't just spill out corporate jargon and keep saying everything is great like the last CEO. I'm happy with the progress...

It's because you didn't understood the meaning of the word hero in the CONTEXT.

Instead you took the literal meaning and started deflecting with statements like war heroes, avengers, ceo salary, company is still in same condition etc etc on and on which is out of the context.

Holding 2 devices is not at all the reason of calling him hero. Its because of last 7 months efforts put by him which started showing positive results

Let's forget the word hero, since you obviously don't know what it means.

When I asked what he's accomplished, why he is awesome, or how BlackBerry is in far better shape, you didn't answer the question. Instead you just wrote a lot of words without actually saying anything. And I understand why. I too would have a hard time coming up a valid answer.

He is a Hero.Last quarter number shows BlackBerry is in a better shape than before. Every media is writing positive on this revival.

    The numbers don't lie.

I deliberately didn't wrote what developments Chen did like BBM for all, foxcon tie up,internal cost optimization, focusing on enterprise, developments on BES 10...its many...

You should note the pace in which he have been doing this is remarkable. Again in context and getting z3 delivered as per commitment, 2 new exciting devices which shows BlackBerry strength and not imitating others is all proves my definition of HERO.

Again there are some people who already makes up their mind(pre occupied) .Like for some people hero means who jumps to a river to save someone. For them to understand the word meaning in context is gotta be difficult.

I now understood why there was lot deflection from you on this discussion.
