Slider is first (proper) PKB with Android OS after a long time! I remember Motorola with PKB and Android but after that all touch keyboards. Slider may fill this gap of Android user's who want PKB.

Wasn't their a PKB that was licensed by BlackBerry to Motorola I believe and running Android? I think there was. I guess we'll at least get to see if the massive, untapped PKB market is there or not with this device and either the proponents or detractors will have to shut up about it.... Ah who am I kidding if it fails another excuse will be made to perpetuate the fantasy.

Do you mean the Moto Droid Pro?

Don't think that was licensed from BB. Personally, I found that keyboard "lacking."

Yes indeed. I was very interested in this device until I learned that it was running Android 2.3... .. .. in 2013. It was called the Motorola Defy Pro

Aye, I agree. I loved my Droid Pro but a lot of these phones were not flagship phones. That's probably the one thing I hated about them, they were cheap with mid range specs at best, hopefully blackberry changes that with their upcoming phone.

And thanks to all the optimizations from Jellybean, onward, even midrange devices don't suck the way they used to on Gingerbread.

Not the first or the only, only the latest. There have been many PKB androids, from low to high end.

The last "high end" (lol) device with a PKB was the Droid 4 in 2012. It was exclusive to 1 carrier (CDMA only) and it was not even close to being a top 5 smartphone released that year. The Galaxy S3 released the same year killed it in almost every way, along with the RAZR MAXX, iPhone 5 and the Note 2.

PKB offerings have been a spec disaster for years. Midrange offerings at best. I LOVE pkb but would not sacrifice major performance for one. Very excited for the Venice.

Eh that's fair. I had the Sprint version (Photon) and it was a solid device aside from the fixed battery which was pretty weak. But yes more midrange than high end. LG had a comparable phone in 2012 that I can't recall the model name right now, but generally 2012 was the end.

Also, that phones keyboard was a landscape keyboard.

I'm a big fan of portrait style keyboards, faster to type on.
