If you follow Alex Thurber's tweets. There seems to be an event taking place in Sri Lanka.
BBIN also tweeted about a new phone.

Maybe they are finally getting around to those two phones they had talked about...

Chairman Ashok Gupta. The company will launch one model at sub-Rs40,000 next month (June) and another at sub-Rs20,000 in July, he said.

Gupta said the company will launch BlackBerry through 4,000 retailers which includes the retail chains and even the premium neighbourhood stores. “We are expecting Rs2,000 crore sales ($300 Million US) in this fiscal,” he said.
They are a little behind what they promised.... if they could get out a Rs20,000 PKB device, that might do something in that market.

They are just like BlackBerry. Big talk, small show.
    Over promise and under Deliver.

    Haha!
They never got to making "India built KEYᴼᴺᴱ"
Till now they have been doing a pretty poor job as a licensee. Let's see if that changes tomorrow.

Did go to an Indian site, says BlackBerry Aurora is coming in Dec 2017........ Rs 18,200.

I would not think that warrants a "special event".

Just a vague newspaper clipping, of all things . But let's be honest, a Wistron-built Motion is the most likely outcome. I get the impression Optiemus isn't all that enthused with developing original devices.

    Good find though, AmritD.

Plot twist: it turns out to be an Aurora with a minor upgrade - stuck on 7.1 October 2017 update instead of 7.0.

Aurora has been on 7.1.1 since April.

But you're right that PT BB Merah Putih does not seem as excited about providing security patches to its customers. Hopefully Optiemus Infracom will have sufficient margins on the device in order to offer a more consistent schedule. I suppose it's a catch-22.

Is it still the TCL BlackBerry or has Optiemus found someone in India to make the devices?

I imagine these are still TCL batches somehow, despite the promised pivot to Wistron.
