I am due for a phone upgrade in November and I am looking at the Essex as my next phone but I hate the fact that its not going to be availability till Q1 or even Q2 of next year! I am thinking about just opting to get the Tour instead but I don't know that if I do that I'll regret it or not when the Essex does come out. Do you guys feel the Essex is such a good BB I should wait for it. The only reason i am so anxious for this upgrade is because I have the black plaque known as the blackberry storm and the bugs are just getting more and more unbearable as I use it everyday. Should i stay strong or submit to the tour?

    How important is WiFi?

Also, with all the trackball issues with the Tour, it might be worth holding out for the trackpad.

What's stopping you from picking up a decent used Curve until the Essex drops? Mod it up, resell it after your upgrade? No need to be tied to their schedule.

Used Tours are starting to show up, too. Get something to play with, wait til it's good to go, then commit.

Im pretty much in the same position as the OP.

This is the major reason for me wanting to hold out. The camera is minuscule to me, and Im not entirely sure on WiFi.

And the fact that Im being hopeful for some more new specs, 512 app memory would be amazing.

Well I'm using a 8520 right now and the trackpad is IMHO a huge step up from the trackball. WiFi is great when you're in a hotspot or in a low coverage area plus the Essex may have an accelerometer (rumor) so that would be a cool addition.

Having seen the issues with the trackball on Tour was a major factor in passing it up. I don't really care for the idea that a part I've replaced twice on my Curve, already, isn't user servicable. Bad idea, IMO.

So I'm looking at Essex and Atlas, myself.

    Storm2 > essex

    Infact

    Bold2(onyx)>essex

    Dakota/Magnum > essex

    just my 2 cents.

The trackball issue is pretty gone. I got my tour a little less than two weeks and the trackball is working flawlessly. I think it was just a bad batch that were the initial problematic Tours.

Stay Strong! Keep an open mind about the Storm2.Everyone that's actually used it has been impressed. Also the Curve2 8530(Aries) is supposed to be out by Christmas.Since you don't care so much about the camera this might be an option as well. The Essex will be so much better than the Tour. Trackpad >! Trackball

At the end of the day, your device needs to be functional. Based on your comment on the Storm, I guess you've found what many others have - that it is only marginally functional as a email machine.

A likely Q2 launch on Essex is 7 to 9 months away. If you get the Tour now on a 1 year, by the time you can switch again, Essex will only be out for 3 to 5 months. By then, the typical teething trouble should be over.

So, I guess my ramble leads to get the Tour on a 1 year.

The Tour is now alright. The trackball is a nonissue now. I mean, you can replace it with a Curve trackball if you wish.

For me, the major selling point of the Essex would be the size (if it's 25% smaller). Wifi, while a great thing if it's going to be thrown in, is not necessary if you have a data plan. I thought that I would miss wifi, but how many times have I wished that I had wifi when "all" I had was a data plan? Never, to be honest.
