The problem is the average consumer does not think about it in this way. And neither should we. How can we sit here and justify that the Z30 is good enough ( which it is but that's beside the point) when Samsung and htc have announced new devices, and apple is certainly not far behind?

For some the Z30 is fine because they will use it until it dies. I however am part of the group of people who like to have the most up to date technology, at least for my phone. I love my Z30 and personally nothing in the market right now would deter me from BlackBerry but if another Z series device does not get released until 18+ months what are the customers like me to do?

From a carrier point of view we have 2 year contracts now ( at least in Canada) So when my contract expires and there is still nothing to replace my Z30 with why should I have to wait for an upgrade when I'm entitled to one then and there? We all pay way too much for our phone plans ( which is why I refuse to turn off LTE) which profits carriers so why do I have to pay so much money when I don't even have the phone I want?

I for one do not want to leave Blackberry and in no way is this an anti-blackberry post, but for them to create an all touch market with their Z series only to put it on the back burner until further notice is ridiculous. You would be hard pressed to argue that sales are the main reason because ALL of the bb10 series devices have been out sold by legacy os devices, not just Z series.

It actually pains me because bb10 is perfect for me, but it seems as if I've been shunned in favor of a keyboard customer base that is more of a niche market at this point. However if this is what BlackBerry has to do in order to survive (which I doubt) then so be it. Again this is not a negative post towards keyboard fans, just merely my opinion, clearly blackberry owes much of their success to their keyboard design so it would be senseless to pretend it's not a huge part of their business.

BlackBerry did a wonderful job with the Z30 so they might think the full touch segment in the high end/flagship is covered for some time.
Sorry. That's wrong on so many points.

Firstly, the Z30 is a nice phone but it's hardly a great device. It's acceptable but not outstanding. It certainly is way behind in terms of specs compared to the GS5 and iPhone.

Secondly, since it wasn't competitive at the time it was launched it certainly can't cover the segment for some time to come.

They need something that is an industry leader.

Why can't they just release a new Q and a new Z at the same time.. It's a mess having staggered releases with nothing to look forward to for 2 years.

You're right. It's not on par at all.

    It's significantly beyond par

    iPhone 5s vs BlackBerry Z30:
    Battery capacity: 1570mAh vs 2880mAh
    Screen size: 4.0" vs 5.0"
Resolution: 640x1136 pixels vs 720x1280 pixels
    Processor: 1.3GHz dual-core vs 1.7GHz dual-core
    Memory: 1GB vs 2GB
    Front Camera: 1.2MP vs 2.0MP
    NFC: No vs Yes
    WiFi Direct: No vs Yes
    Miracast: No vs Yes
    HDMI: No vs Yes
    FM Radio: No vs Yes
    SD Card: No vs Yes

That's not even mentioning things like the speaker quality (Z30 is far better), the antenna (Z30 has significantly better antenna) or the browser (Z30 absolutely slaughters the iPhone on HTML5 test, ringmark etc).

No doubt about it. The Z30 is a superior phone both in specs and in real life usage. Outlasts, outpaces, outclasses, outperforms. Easy.

Be all of that as it may, we are considering another flagship all touch device to be released in Q4 of 2014 or Q1 of 2015. I think that is why this thread was started?

you want Z50 to happen? then purchase and advertise the upcoming Z3!! buy 2 or more all-touch devices their selling and that Z50 would come early. its nearly impossible for a dying company to just build high end phones without some assurance that it would sell. lols!

Why dont all the full touch lovers upgrade their Z10s to Z30? That would help BlackBerry alot.

What BlackBerry needs is justification to continue development for full touch.

The Beatles sold lots of album, and we're very successful as a band. They have maintained a strong following across many decades.

The Z30 was never successful and never sold well. Big difference.

Useless post. I already advertize with my Z10. No need to by a downgraded Z3 to prove a point.

Hey- thanks for keeping it real. I totally do not understand people complaining about BB not introducing a new "flagship" touch device in the next 12 months. The Z30 may be the best touchscreen smartphone ever made. Just because some of the specs are less than some Android devices doesn't mean those devices outperform the Z30; processor speed does not directly equate to browser speed, etc.

Wasn't the Z30 just made available from Verizon early this year? Even if it was initially offered late last year, globally, it's not even a year old yet... I will get one soon, if I can. Off contract so I can swap my SIM out with my Q10. If anyone is a supporter of BB, I suggest they go get a Z30. It's an incredible phone and will be for some time. Lastly- the US carrier situation is B.S. We should be buying the phones and paying the carriers for service; this may cut down on the "disposable" approach we have to our handhelds.
