BlackBerry 10's require special hardware specifications where as Android does not. This is due to BB10 being a highly sophisticated & Multi Gesture OS.
It represents the future of mobility whether people like it or not. Its only a matter of time. A BB10 Native App runs circles around a Android & even an iOS Native App.
Can you clarify this hardware? I haven't seen a single thing in the tear downs that indicate anything on the device boards that is different from you high end Android devices. Also the FIPS approvals state that the only real requirement for the security is an ARMV7 compliant processor which implies all of the security is handled via software.

Sounds like the same as why you cannot run BB10 on an Android smart phone. BB10 requires different hardware screen and digitizer specs or something of that nature.

Not happening they can't change OS'S when they have new other devices that cannot be upgraded to the latest OS.

First no more apps, because of the Amazon store. And now Android OS.

Don't you see the pattern here? Soon the reason you bought a BlackBerry are gone. Mark my words.

That's not speculation. You cannot run BB10 on today's Android devices. They will have to incorporate special hardware specifications for the OS to work.

While we couldn't just install BB10 on an existing Android device, BB themselves could readily run Android on their own hardware, they would be able to make the changes that would require at a low enough level, for example just compare the specs of a passport to any android flagship that had come out earlier that year there is very few differences beyond the obvious ones of keyboard and the display.

Who knows, maybe we will see them launch a passport running android this year, there might be plenty of people who wouldn't want to leave the android ecosystem, but find the unique form factor (plus any BB customisation) appealing.

They would just code Bb10 to run on the specs of the Android device chosen. No different then building their own device and having to code the OS to support the GPU and components chosen.

A hybrid phone is a terrible idea. No one wants one device with two different user interfaces.

Look at how Windows 8 flopped because of how it couldn't make up its mind and choose between the traditional Windows desk top and Metro.

It is far more likely that BlackBerry would develop a Secure version of Android. In fact, that is exactly what its partnership with Samsung is all about.

The QNX hypervisor was announced this week with availability in late 2015. Supports Android. So hypothetically a phone running full BlackBerry 10 and full Android on a single device will be a technical possibility at that point.

I could see some applications for secure mobile phones in the near future that will be much better than the crap out now.
