    Hey!

If anyone else has noticed, in the Vendor Portal for BlackBerry, under Graphics>BlackBerry 10 Smartphone when adding or editing a product there is a new maximum resolution in both the 1:1 Section Requirements, and the 16:9 Requirements.

Of course, we know about the MAXIMUM 1440x1440 Q30, but there is now a 2K Resolution in the 16:9 section - MAXIMUM 2560x1440.

Not sure if this has been pointed out yet...

I attached a screenshot, and the script:

"You may have a maximum of 50 screenshots
Screenshots must meet the one of the following criteria:

    16:9
Screenshots must be sized at either 1280x768 (landscape) or 768x1280 (Portrait) pixels
Screenshots must have an aspect ratio of 16:9 with a minimum size of 1280x720 (landscape) or 720x1280 (portrait) pixels
Maximum size of 2560x1440 or 1440x2560

    1:1
Screenshots must have an aspect ratio of 1:1 with a minimum size of 720x720 pixels
    Maximum size of 1440x1440 pixels

Screenshots must be in GIF, JPG, or PNG format."

    What do you think?

    Anyone able to clarify?

Hope they release a beast of a full touch phone with that resolution. I wanna get rid of this Z10. I love the phone, but recently I've begun to hate it for its short battery life.

Before anyone gets too excited, consider that this is the specification for "promotional artwork" and more or less doubling the current device resolutions. That would be almost unheard of as a single step-up in device resolution and more likely to reflect desired standards so images can be resized correctly. Having said that, it may be that someone is thinking about a bleeding edge killer device, more resolution than any competitor, more memory, faster processor, every element of specification so far ahead the competitors can't hope to match it. OTOH the price would also have to be so far ahead it would probably only sell in middle eastern oil states....

Think what screen size would be needed for that pixel resolution to render content at readable size. Now think of the battery drain to operate the screen...

They've already doubled the resolution... the upcoming Q30 is 1440p vs current 720p resolution.

Yeap. The 1440p device is pretty much confirmed.

Signature - Google wants your info. What are you gonna do about it?

And it's very likely that the next high end touch device will also be 1440p.

Yeah this is interesting. It makes sense that it follows the trend BlackBerry has moving towards simply doubling the resolution, making things easier for developers.

720 (x2) x 1280 (x2) would be 1440x2560. It could be for the next all touch device the same way the Q10 is moving from 720x720 to 1440x1440 on the Windermere. A future tablet could be a possibility as well.

On the other hand, it could just be support for a higher resolution to make things easier for Android developers that have higher quality screenshots from their apps already. There are a few phones including the LG G3 that have a 1440x2560 display.

It's absolutely to make things easier for developers. But as usual there is no appreciation for their efforts to keep BB10 a easy platform to port apps to.

No... it's definitely a qwerty 1440p device that's coming out first. I have the 10.3 virtual machine running on my desktop for that device.

    Yup. Right from BlackBerry's mouth.

"Also, when you fire up the 10.3 beta simulator, you’ll notice another square screen. This is for a new device with a 14401440 resolution and pixel density of 453 DPI."

No real need to think about it... 5.5-inch QHD display at 538ppi with about a 3000mAh battery. It's not like the parts aren't available. 1080p is out, 2K is on the way in whether we need/want it or not lol. If BlackBerry ISN'T working on a 2K device then they NEED to be working on a 2K device. They need to shed that 'late to the party' image.

Eh, by the time BlackBerry gets around to a 2560x1440 display it'll be late to the party anyway. But we do have trackpads going for us, which is nice. Supposedly.
