Nokia Lumia 520 and 720 being unleashed on China very soon | Windows Phone Central

I am not trolling - they really need to compete in these markets.

The z10 is a premium phone that sells for R 39,900 vs R 10,500 for the Lumia 520. Yes the 520 is not a premium phone but it certainly appears to be a great phone for the price given the market it is in.

BB needs a phone of the size and specs and price of the Galaxy 4 and at the other end , the Lumia 520. The Z10 is now mid-range in smartphone land.

Herr Hiens has said BlackBerry has no plans to make inexpensive models. BlackBerry is a premium brand and they have no intention of becoming a commodity product. If buyers can't afford the Z or Q, they just won't have a BlackBerry.

This could change if BB decides to license BB10. In that case, some low-end maker will offer the device with BB10. That will not dilute the BB brand.

A friends co-developer said at BB hackatoon that BB plans to release 6 new devices this year. 2 or 3 of them are supposedly low-tier devices. Don't know how reliable this is tho

There will be more than that:
    Z10: STL100-1, STL100-2, STL100-3 (x2), STL100-4
Q10: models not known but there will likely be similar models.

Well I don't care who makes them as long as they get made. $ 150 to 200 is the sweet spot for smartphone sales in the markets where BB has 65% of their devices. To be an "Apple" that just relies on premium devices BB would need to add some highly spec'd tablets to the mix. (no repeats of Playbook debacle).

It appears I was wrong. It seems the R model is being test now. R is a lower priced model designed for a market segment that doesn't need all the features of the Z and Q models.
