BlackBerry 8530 headed to Verizon, totes Wi-Fi : Boy Genius Report

Posted on BGR with a pic from Crackberry.

I would have thought it to be an 8550 since it has Wifi.

maybe since the GPS is gone and replaced by Wifi they'll keep it an 8530?

PM sent to mod for change to be made.

Got my hopes up lol. I'd much rather see the 8930, than the low budget curve.

Same here. I would much rather the 8930 apposed to the 8530.

I knew that was going to happen. I contacted a mod immediately after hitting the submitt button.

I've seen people say it on here all the time and I didn't listen.

No starting new threads before the morning coffee is finished.

So whats the difference between this and the Tour besides the WIFI and the terribly small trackpad?

What's the rumored price going to be?

So I guess there won't be an 8930/8950? Sounds like 8900 series is going to be a dead end with the 9000 series devices(Bold,Tour,Onyx,Driftwood) being the high-end buisness devices and the 85xx series Curves,Pearls and Pearl Flips being the lower-end of the BB line. Also I'm confused as well, shouldn't it be the 8550 since it has WiFi?I thought on CDMA devices the xx30 meant just EVDO and xx50 meant EVDO+WiFi. Verizon has stated that all it's BB after the Tour will have WiFi so BGR should call it the 8550.

Here are the specs for the GSM version: http://www.crackberry.com/t-mobile-a...rry-curve-8520 Just replace EDGE with EVDO Rev.0.

Would it be more beneficial to go with the tour or to wait for this one? Some business use mixed with a lot of personal use?

That's exactly what I thought too.

Could be BGR just not stating it correctly.

Honestly the best thing to do is to wait a bit.VZW has going to have perhaps the best carrier line-up of BBs by the end of the year. The Tour, Storm 2, Pearl Flip, and now the new Curve really offer something for every type of smartphone user. But if this new Curve is built well and you don't care so much about the camera or international roaming it's hard to see why you'd pay the extra for the Tour.

    Rev. 0?

I thought it had Rev. A?

Only the Storm series and the Tour series carry the newer EVDO Rev.A.The 8550 will use the same EVDO Rev.0 as the current Curve 8330. Lest that's what I read from an earlier description.

I think VZ should have gone with a 89xx instead of the Tour. I don't remember hearing so much guff about the 8900 when it came out. Seems to be a good device. All you hear about now is how the Tour signal strength stinks, loose battery cover, screen ripple, etc. With two less-than-perfect devices in a row (Storm and Tour), I sure hope they get it right with the 85xx.

You mean the 85xx? Yeah, when there is no signal on your Tour, pull out your back-up, low-end blackberry. LOL!

Well, I'm on Tour#5 right now, haven't activated it yet but if I have any problems with this one, I will defintiely be going with this device when it comes out.
Assuming it'll be the 8550 and have GPS I think i can live with out the flash and the EVDO RevA.

Only problem will be with out having unlocked GPS Berry Weather and Google maps will be limited to cell tower location. Not too keen on that but I guess it'll be my only choice. Not really interested in the Storm2 unless it is absolutely amazing and flawwless.
