Hi. If you are reading this you probably already know that Vista is incurable. This thread is a shoulder for us all to cry on and share experiences.

Bought a Crucial MX100 SSD as a Father's Day present, hopefully it will make a suitable crutch for his Dell laptop, running Vista. It works great. Nearly finished installing Service Pack 1, and it has only taken 6 hours( and counting)!

If there are enough of us, perhaps we can group together a class action suit, and force Microsoft to issue a free copy of Windows 7 or 8 to all.

    Thanks

I would recommend buying a Windows 7 laptop as a time-saving alternative to doing a clean install of Vista on a current laptop.

Only victims here are self inflicted wounds. Been using Win 8 for almost 2 years currently running Win 8.1 PRO 64bit and not looking back.

Vista? If you buy a computer with Vista on it now you're a fool. Vista sucks. I completely skipped that version after having to fix other peoples computer with that garbage on it. Held out on XP until Win7 came to light. Win8 is o k a y but I don't really like it. CentOS for the win.

Tuned up my Moms Vista computer this weekend, hopefully for the last time. She's got 6 months of Norton protection left and after that I'll get her a Chromebook.

You do realize Vista is no longer supported by Microsoft, don't you?

If you were truly interested in support cycles and not just flapping your emouth, you might have gone with Windows Embedded Standard 7. That is what is on my laptop.

Vista was horrible until the first SP.
But then it became a fairly decent OS. Control Panel, Eject USB, security and other features much improved over XP, but not such a radical departure as Win7 (iconized task bar), left alone 8.

I perceived another boost in stability and speed when Windows 7 and its SP1 hit.

Currently using it on a sidekick machine, and I flog it harder than my main laptop...

Mainstream support is 5 years, overall support is 10 years life cycle.

Will be going the way of XP in 2017....

My mother owns a Dell LT w/ Vista on it...

She has no idea re, PC/LT products.

Any how - she needed help giving it a clean out.

After several hours work, I had removed 40 unnecessary programs... (Revo Uninstaller ftw).

She had 3x different Malware/Spyware removal programs all running simultaneously...

There was a 200mb AV solution that was seriously boggin things down

Then there was Windows Defender running in the background too.

She had a multitude of different toolbars installed (10 or 12) that weren't helping either...

Then there were the automated backups that had completely filled up 'Recovery D' drive...

I've tried to '!d!ot proof' the LT by setting up a lite weight AV - to need very little hands on + disabled a majority of the automated guff...
