Windows 8 upgrade takes a long time to install
It's been 2 hours so far, glad I have my playbook for doing things while it's churning away.
There has been a lot of 'identifying programs 'getting ready' 'wait a few moments' 'getting ready' (yes again) 'identifying devices' and a couple of reboots.
Actually this is the second attempt, first time it failed so I went back and ran the windows 8 checking process again, and uninstalled the programs it gave warnings about, although that is a guess as it didn't give reason for failure, just rolled back to windows 7
It's rebooting again hopefully this is it!

Did you do the download or did you pick up the software?

I downloaded and burned a DVD, then started with first install at 7:00am est. Second install started at 10:00am and finally finished at 12:30 est.
Re: Windows 8 upgrade takes a long time to install
During the install it asked me if it should get latest updates from the internet and I said yes, now that I found the control panel, it had another 4 important updates which I'm installing!
Navigation seems nifty, I didn't read anything about how to control it, so I was stuck for about 30 seconds on the tile screen! I'm using a desktop PC with a mouse and keyboard, no touch. but the trick is to move the mouse all the way to the corners of the screen to get option menus to slide in or switch between tiles and traditional desktop :) I think the playbook experience of gestures pointed me in the right direction to think of moving to the edge/corners.

Neat. I'm excited to play around with it. I hope it's easy enough to navigate with a trackpad since I only have a laptop.

Another round of installing, when I went to play music it said that 15 apps needed to be updated, so that was another 30 minutes to install those.
