If your significant other is all hyped for valentines day, don't do anything. Wait till a week after and woe them with a nice dinner, flowers, and love. And say to them that you don't need a specific day to show how much you love them. You love them no more on the 14th than the 13th, 15th, or any other day. No special day increases the love you have for them.
They won't ever make a big deal anymore. And once you're married, your anniversary will be more important than valentines day.
It should work. Well...at least it worked for me.*
* I do not take any responsibility for what happens, divorce, breakup, smack in the face, yelling and swearing, and no special lovin'.
