States know what they need for its people better than the federal government just as cities and towns know what their constituents need. When you start forcing states to regulate per what the federal government wants, you tie their hands. Example, education, welfare, healthcare.
Posted via Manly Passport02-14-16 04:01 PMLike 0 - Civil rights was broken federally before states were misapplying the law. Once the federal government fixed the scope of equal rights applying to all people in the constitution, it was an easy fix. The constitution will always require federal oversight. That has always been the intent.

But, the actual implementation and acceptance of the legislation was very very difficult and to a large extent is still not accepted in many areas today. Especially in the South.

Posted via Manly Passport02-14-16 07:07 PMLike 0 - I am sure most of us agree in a "we the people" government over a "them the government". If you want to have a voice in how our government is run or keep accountability within an earshot of the community, you better have state's rights. Some states will get it wrong while others get it right. They learn from one another. The big government concept would more than likely only do what is best for the donors, and make decisions that are unproven with the entire nation to pay for its shortcomings. In addition, tyranical governments come from big government with little to hold them accountable.

I may not like Obamacare but I like the term, "can't afford to live" even less. Sure, anyone can go to an emergency room but we who had insurance was paying the deferred cost of the ones who had no insurance and our rates were going out of control. Insurance companies had maximum caps so that the parents of terminal ill children with Leukemia were forced to liquidate their lives in a no win effort to keep their child alive. And let's face it, giving someone preventive care or a pill for their blood pressure sure saves us the cost of caring for the effects of a stroke or diabetes... either way we're going to pay, the blood pressure pill makes more sense than full time care for a stroke victim??? I'm sure you can see that???
I too don't like welfare, but until we come up with a better way to help those who can't do for themselves, like say my nephew born with MS, then we have to try something. Yes, there are people who fraud and milk the system, but we have them in wall street and defense contracts also. And they stick us for a whole lot more than a few food stamps ($600 hammer)... Spreading the cost across the national population helps us do more for less than small states like AK (small population) and other less populated states can do for their poor. This is why the programs are federal, we can do more for less at that level...
As far as doing for their donors, you're sure not describing those who live off public assistance. I've never seen a welfare lobbyist??? Pumping $millions into a campaign or buying a TV network??? They sure aren't a bunch of them making large donations like say the deregulation guys that got tax breaks and subsidies for sending the good paying jobs overseas... I think you're blaming the problem on the attempt to solve it whether than seeing reality for what it is...
I would like less government also, but as long as the rich keep taking advantage of the poor then the only voice the poor has to counter the money of the rich is government. I know some are afraid of communism, but without government we'd be more of a third world country with about 10% filthy rich and the rest of us dirt poor...02-14-16 07:46 PMLike 3 - The states make up the country through local governments. They will make mistakes, but not at a national level. However, they will likely learn from one an other. As long as they are forced to abide by the constitution, historical issues we had are in the past. There will always be a new a challenge, but at least if a state gets it wrong, people will leave in protest. Other states will do some things better and hopefully they all self regulate to learn from mistakes and success of other states. If the federal government gets it wrong, that is a much bigger issue.

I left NJ in protest to move down south where there is much less regulation.
If you like high taxes, NJ may be for you.

As stated in a previous post, no, I'm not against common sense social programs per se. But you can't deny the fact that it is the promise for more and more giveaways that is keeping the modern Democratic machine alive. Food Staps, not good enough. Public housing, discount college, you deserve more. Free health care, tax refunds, WIC, etc. etc. Still not enough.
Sanders and Hillary fighting for the poor. Not because it will help them win. Noooo, not at all! it's because they really care. My foot!

Public assistance IS the lobby, and quite an expensive one- it's costing us billions!!! Most Dem politicians drag folks to the polls just by promising them all kind of goodies. If you can pinpoint to 1 issue that helped Obama win a 2nd term, it's to promise of free birth control. The young turned to the polls in droves! With de Blasio in New York, it was free pre-kindergarten. And the list goes on and on.

He is a businessman and thinks he can do anything because he is a negotiator, that's just bull. Take Russia, Putin will not play to Trump!

The day that one of you people actually turns your ire to where it SHOULD be instead of demonizing the poor and other needy recipients of social welfare (again, most of whom are children), I'll eat my shoe.

No matter what I know I'll vote for the Democrat at the end but I hope Trump beats Cruz in the primary.
I hope Rubio beats Cruz too. I guess I'd take anything over Cruz. He really scares me.

Go live in France if you really want to know what left wing really means. Democrats are right of centre, and Republicans are extreme right wing. There is no liberal or left wing party in the US. Not even close.

- The common mistakes that people like you make is that you look down and not up, why does Warren Buffet have a lower Tax rate then you? The Billionaires in America have been getting Tax breaks for years and additionally sheltering there money in off shore account and fake company's but you can only think about a few people abusing the System on the bottom. The scales are tipped unfairly in there favor which causes someone like you and your Wife To work two jobs to get by.
As to your friend I'm sorry to hear that, if the American Health Care system was set up like in all other Modern Country he wouldn't go Bankrupt while trying to get treatment, it's not right to make massive Profit on people's Health when all they want to do is live.
Read this Article For a small example of how over priced Health Care Is in America, even with Health Insurance Your rates and Premiums will continue to rise when you become unprofitable.

He criticized homosexuality as a liberal plot to indoctrinate children, spoke out against women's reproductive rights, was married to an outspoken religious fanatic / advocate of conservative social values, argued that multi-billion dollar corporations are people and that money is speech, did not recuse himself from cases in which he had a conflict of interest, and showed contradictory interpretations of the Constitution depending on the issue being argued. In short, he was everything a Supreme Court Justice should not be. It's too bad the republicans have a palpable hatred of President Obama, otherwise he might be able to nominate someone more suited to the position to replace Scalia, but I'm sure they'd rather shut the court down completely than see anyone left of Scalia take his seat.

You don't seem to hate government waste, it's appears only specific waste that makes you mad. If we'd bring back the jobs from overseas, perhaps we can reduce the welfare rolls? Ever think of that?Captain_Hilts likes this.02-14-16 11:33 PMLike 1 -
Can you still say what you like outside of inciting others to riot? Can you still worship and assemble where and when you want? Can you still own a gun? Can you vote? If (when) you get arrested, will you be given a trial by a jury of your peers? If you answered "yes" to all these questions, then congratulations, you still have your rights. Don't like the country we have here? Then pack up and move to North Korea or something. So many on the right are convinced that Obama has already turned us into North Korea, anyway, so I'm sure you won't really notice a difference.
Posted via CB1002-14-16 11:34 PMLike 3 - Because some people forget the constitution is really a great compromise. There were all kinds of views sitting at the table, and not just a bunch of guys who agreed on what government should be. This is why we have elections and why the Constitution had provisions to change it... Otherwise, we wouldn't need Congress, just a bunch of high paid lawyers...Captain_Hilts likes this.02-14-16 11:38 PMLike 1

Don't worry, I'll believe whatever you say. After all, your icon is an ingenious combination of the traitor... I mean rebel flag with a "please send snacks"... I mean "don't tread on me" symbol. I'm sure you're an expert.

Edit: He also wants to beat babies and puppies to death with hardbound copies of the Constitution because his gods Karl Marx, V.I. Lenin, and Adolf Hitler demand it.
Honestly, the Obama that the right wing has created in their minds is a LOT scarier than the one we actually elected. Twice. By wide margins. Both times.
