I wonder which smartphones you started? Maybe most started with BlackBerry or Palm. I remember I keep looking at Palm in glass windows before and thinking I will have one of those when I finish my degree and have work. Sad to say by the time I finished Palm was non existent.

My very first was an iphone 4.

BlackBerry 8330m, although I had an iPod Touch before that (I think), which maybe could count? And an old palm pilot thong before that, but o don't remember if that had any network capabilities (I think it didn't).

Nokia N8!

I have been using this for 3 years now and I just got a new battery and a new Otterbox commuter case for it. Hopefully, I can get another 3 years out of this phone!

Overall, I really can't find replacement for this phone
- Small screen size 3.5 inch (easy for one hand use)
- Nokia always-on clock screen
- 2 Day battery life
- 12mp Carl Zeiss camera with Xenon flash
- User replaceable battery and SD slot
- FM Transmitter

And I honestly cannot get another phone without sacrificing at least a couple of these features, not even the new Nokia phones.

I especially hate the trend of newer phones getting way too big.

I started with iPAQ windows phone by HP. It was a amazing phone. Shifted to HTC touch, diamond and then Blackberry Storm1, storm2, 9800, 9860, Z10 and now Z30. Don't want to shift from BB platform to another because of email and typing experience.

For me, it was my friends bold 9000 on which I discovered how great it was to text with a BlackBerry keyboard after texting the whole night with my now girlfriend of 3 years that I had met the day before and that made me get a 9700 the next day(what a beautiful phone by the way). That's how I got hooked to blackberry and I can't see myself with another phone than my z10 (well, I could but only if it's a z30)

DROID Eris on Verizon. Not sure I would call it smart though. It was terrible. Still have it.

I started off with the HP iPAQ, which ran Windows Mobile (3.2 or some number like that). I loved the huge screen, and it had the mobile messaging abilities with MSN built in. Of course at the time data was priced horrendously at $100 for 100 MB. I ditched it long before my 3 years was up and went for a couple feature phones (first one with a great music experience, then one of those double flip phones that would have a full keyboard in one direction and a regular keypad the other direction). From there I eventually picked up the HTC Touch Diamond, with Windows Mobile 5.0 and 5.1. Not even a year later I picked up the BlackBerry Storm 9530, which I used for a good year and a half before getting an HTC Desire While my second line had a Bold 9700. Then there was the Desire HD, Amaze 4G, Torch 9810, Samsung Galaxy S2x, and now all consolidated down to one line on my Z30.
