My first post in this thread thanks to a fellow Crackberry friend that directed me here.
Now, I know someone is going to read this and think....

Holy crap! This guy actually listens to RECORDS (now known as Vinyl) and he likes that old JAZZ stuff (formerly known as true American music).
Damn, he must be 1,000 years old!
Nope, I just love Jazz and Vinyl. It sounds very different than digital streams.
Yes, I stream too and I listen to much more than Jazz. I just prefer Vinyl, and love Jazz.

I listen to vinyl as well. Nothing like it. USB to my Mac, then network to my BD player and through my stereo.

That's awesome Kelly. There is a resurgence of Vinyl, even among the very young. When I go my record store, most of the shoppers looking for Vinyl are actually younger than 21 years old. I never thought I'd see Vinyl come back like that.

It's great you are spinning Vinyl. Your setup is converting Analog to Digital right from the Turntable. If you get the chance some day, listen to a pure analog system like those of the 70's. The pure Analog chain (Turntable Magnetic Cartridge to Pre amplifier to amplifier to home floor speakers) gives you a realism that will shock most people.

Analog represents true music reproduction because it's what you hear if you go listen to a live band and nothing is lost converting the music to digital format. Digital is a representation of what a computer generated copy "Thinks" the analog waveform should be represented as. You loose live presence with this conversion. But it's better than nothing!

I picked up my first vinyl in 1966. "Revolver," The Beatles. I think it was a buck and a half in cost. The love affair has never ended. I was 12 years old.

I absolutely prefer analog over digital, however, we flipped four years ago to accommodate our cable feed. My business needs to remain updated for my clients. I provide video conversion from analog to digital, so my demo presentation has to be dazzling to new clients.

OK, that tells me a lot. You and I are about the same age, so I apologize. You certainly do NOT need to listen to pure analog since you grew up with it. I have to assume on this forum that so many are post analog users.

I don't even remember my first album (probably a 45), Kelly. My first JAZZ album was Woody Herman's "Giant Steps" in 1977. My Music teacher was playing it when we walked into our music theory class as a Senior in High School (yes, my High school offered Music Theory to Seniors). That album had just been released.

Now, my Father (RIP) had played Jazz constantly when I was growing up but I never listened. I was more into Rock. For some reason the sound of Jazz blew me away on that particular day, and I rushed out and bought the album. I still have it decades later, and I stayed with Jazz as my favorite Genre to this day, and I don't expect that to change. I've got a huge vinyl collection. I never stopped collecting, even when it was not "cool" to do so. Not just Jazz. I have a bit of Classical, Rock and some Pop.

However, even us old school Analog guys sometimes STREAM Digital. It's too convenient when you are just chilling and don't want to prep and flip vinyl albums.
I usually stream via my iPad, but the old Playbook also makes a great streaming device. Especially when using the BBerry charging stand.

Johnny Cash, George Jones, Mary Robbins, etc. were common faire in my earlier years. My mother was into country, father had bailed a few years before. She kept a stack of these artists around, so I really had no choice of my own to listen to. I still have no love for country music, however, Johnny Rivers was also included in what she brought home. Him I liked and still do. Mainly his live Whiskey A Go Go stuff. His "Realization" release along with The Animals' "The Twain Shall Meet" release were life changing for me. Their messages opened my head to the world. Glen Campbell I liked as well. More because of his studio musicians, not actually because of him. Jim Webb wrote for him and Johhny Rivers. Today, I prefer instrumental compositions over everything.

My favorite release for many years now has been "The Promise" from John McLaughlin. I think it was a 1986 release. It contains all instrumental material in multiple genres.

I agree. My wife gave me a Galaxy Tab S2 9.7" for Christmas, early. It's streaming and broadcast capabilities are very capable and efficient.

We have similar tastes. Last year (or perhaps the year before, I can't quite remember) I got the newly released Johnny Cash Album "Out Among the Stars" - available in Vinyl. Cash recorded this in the 80's but never released it. It was my very FIRST Country album, and may be my last. I'm not a Country fan, but I appreciate some of the artists and cuts. Glen Campbell I do not consider as much Country as I do Pop. I do have a Glen Campbell album. I worked my way through college as a lineman for a cable TV company so "Wichita Lineman" was always a song I appreciated as I lived it for a while.
