I wanted an all-in-one device. It does lots of things and it does most of them pretty well. I don't need a separate phone, mp3 player, ebook reader, gps, camera, and unnamed device that lets me have all my instant messenger apps running at one time.
And thanks to Virgin Mobile, I can do it all for 35 bux a month.

Honestly before I got my blackberry, they were always sort of an obscure phone that I knew tons of people used, but I never really paid attention to. The blackberry I have is the first smartphone Ive ever owned, and I love it, and will probably continue using a blackberry for the foreseeable future.

I actually never wanted a smartphone. I was in the Alltel store, upgrading my dumbphone, and saw the pearl....started to think about how much nicer it would be if my clients could email me....being a business owner with no employees, I have to be accessible by my customers when I leave the office. After using the pearl for less than a day, I was hooked!

I had ipod touch and thought about getting iphone but honestly the plan for iphone was too expensive on top of 200 for the phone, not good enough and all my friends use bb so i thought about how saving money if I use bbm instead of text for most people. and I feel like it was good idea anyway, i like it better. except I prefer internet on ipod but is okay because I have a computer so I mostly use computer anyway.
-
I got accustomed to them when I sold wireless. But never really thought I needed it. I liked them a lot though. Then I had huge laptop issues and was two months without my HP and it was only 8 months old. I took the plunge and haven't looked back.

My first BB was 7150, I bought it because I liked the idea that the device had the ability to be my pesrsonal secretary.
-
I wanted to get one because all of my partners had one! I love the BBM feature.

Main thing for me is emails, internet and texting and BB is the best for me...any other phone I have used doesn't even come close to ease and reliability of a BB.
-
I have BB for ages started off with a 8700G, then went off and got an iPhone, got tired of that easy, went to Bold 9000, storm 1 for a while and now currently on the torch

Hi
I've always wanted a blackberry and now I did it. It started a couple oears ago when I saw a friend using a 88 something. Not quite sure. Having a full keyboard on a device was also pretty cool. Love the full size keyboard and as I've to work on a lot of email on the go I decided to take the plunge and get a BB. Love it so far!

I thought it would be nice not having to turn on the pc to check for emails.

I had literally gone through every phone tmo had to offer at the time. They were always missing something. A friend at work had a BB she referred to as her Crackberry. I always made fun of her for being so attached to her phone.
One day I finally gave in and got an 8900. I wore that thing out! I've strayed from BB but I always come back =]

Both my parents had one and were always on the internet or doing Blackberry-esque things like BBM and I was jealous. So the Storm was my first Berry. That was short-lived. The original storm...sucked lol but then went on to the 8330 then the tour, they were much better. Now im on the hunt for a new one. Once you start, you can't stop.

My dad suggested I get one back when I was 15 (he's awful). I switched back and forth between BBs and other texting phones, but I'll always stick with a BB. Can't live with any other OS and can't live without BBM!

Well my friend found one on the bus and had it for 2 years ,and
It worked too it must have been a corporate phone cause no
One ever called it ,to pick it up .Any how my friend did'nt
Like it (too small) but I would use it when I was visiting him
And decided to buy one ,all those buttons ,how could I not
And with my dumb phone costing about 50 bucks a month
For just phone (witch I don't like talking on ) I figured for an
Extra 20 bucks for data I will get more use from it . As a technician
Mechanic I am constantley looking up parts and data sheets.
I luv my berry.

I was losing my hearing more and more and a landline wasn't cutting it. Needed something reliable for texting/email communication and went with the 9700. It was a good decision.

I do a lot of texting and emailing, so I wanted a device with a full keyboard. I've also been thinking of getting a BB for a few months now. I think it was an excellent choice that I did.
-
The one device that retrieves all my emails continuously without errors or requiring continuously configuration
-
I liked the idea of all the features plus the physical keyboard which in my opinion is better than a touch screen keyboard.

It could be funny for most people, considering "fights" BB vs iPhone vs Android, but in the end Apple's iPad brought me to BlackBerry world.
Have been early adopter of smartphones, using for number of years HTC WinMo slider phones with qwerty, and enjoying it. Mostly emails (push with ActiveSync), calendar management, documents on the go, browsing, remainders etc. - virtually everything you can get from a smartphone.
Later moved to iPhone and Nokia E71, and at some point mobile browsing become very significant part of my usage pattern. E71 was much better as a tool, and I was ready, actually did it for some time, to give up on iPhone. Back to iPhone was due to e71 having trouble all the time with ActiveSync push - never worked well, while on iPhone was great. What I was missing a lot, really a LOT, was qwerty - hate virtual and T9 keyboards.
In Aug/Sep last year decided to give up on iPhone and move Android. Was considering mostly HTC Desire Z, due to having qwerty. After made my choice, was just waiting the device to get on the market, BUT ... at this point we got an iPad at home, and it became my main kinda of tool on the go - virtually replaced my netbook, but on the other side, I realized I have stopped browsing on the phone - no need of large screen anymore. Not to mention I never play games on mobile devices.
It come clear to me, thanks to iPad, that I need a combination of two devices, smartphone for all the stuff, including calls ;) , except for browsing - with FULL qwert (preferably no slider but with BlackBerry/E71 keyboard) and a tablet.
iPad, with 10 inch screen, is great for many things but not that convenient for doing a job and be "tool-on-the-go".
7 inch tablet was the answer for mobility, and iPad at home for browsing and entertainment.
At this point BalckBerry become to appear on the horizon of my eventual choices, especially with the work RIM was doing developing PlayBook - looks like to be the best choice with 7 inch form factor, and the fact it is developed to do the job, but not to be mostly a great toy. So, I jumped into BlackBerry, getting Curve 3G, "advertised" as entry level BB - with the idea no to spend that much money at first. If don't like it, not that great "financial loss", go and take HTC Desire Z later.
The general plan behind Curve 3G choice is/was later this year to get Bold Touch (withh the power of specs it will have) and PlayBook WIFI+3G (not much use for me from a tablet without cellular data connection).
Being some time with 9300 start not getting it why it is "labeled" entry level BlackBerry - great tool, does excellent all I need, love the keyboard, and began considering to stay with the Curve eventually.
But, recently kiddo start "circling" around the Curve, and I guess he will have it at some point, and back to Bold Touch plan ... ;)
