Security work not so much, but if I need to snap a photo of something .... you know the saying "1000 words...". I also write my logs in the Memopad to be transcribed later.
My other job is Contract Computer Technician for working in for banks etc. All dispatches are emailed and I can respond much quicker via my BB. Final reports and Expense sheets are emailled back so I'm paid, it's much easier the using my laptop and I can quickly send it back to get paid faster.
Your boss is an ***. Have you thought of reporting him to HR?

I just like having a BB I have used it a couple of times for a conference call if not at work but it isn't required of us. I use it for personal but sometimes it is handy when at work I used to sell wireless and got hooked on them back then.
I am glad I have it. I was without my laptop for almost two months and it saved me ! I can't see myself using a dumbphone. It is BB forever.

Ok i see its not any where near $8 a month where did you get that? Dont you guys use fire pagers also? BBM me direct...
I'm just kind of curious which careers support the BB as far as buying them for you? Do any require you to have them?
Corporate Pilot. Blackberry not required specifically, but our company has a BES server and most of our flight schedule is handled through email/company calendar.
I work for a company that handles physical therapy for Worker's Comp cases. My company did not issue me my blackberry, but I linked my work email account to my BB so I can recieve the referrals, check up on injured worker's and schedule them appointments if I'm not in my office.
Rig Manager/Tool Push on land based oil/gas drilling rigs....(nothing like BP)
I use mine for e-mails mostly but also picture in field of certian problems, something to send into the office right there and then. The company as a whole use the BBM to get a hold of all 12 of us on a steady bases as well. I also like the "PDF, and Spread Sheet" reading as well.
Im a post ***** on many internet forums, and my work is so boring that I cant stay awake and need something to entertain me. So yes I need a BB and no they dont provide me one nor am I supposed to carry a celllular device with me at all.
Transportation - brokers, customers, all alike send e-mails for updates and quotes so I need to respond ASAP so I can get/keep their business. The BB has made working away from the office a whole lot easier.
I'm a history researcher/aspiring writer (hence my username!).
I often have 2 or 3 different projects/jobs on at the same time and I'm finding my BlackBerry's calendar and task apps are almost essential for keeping track of everything.
I often have to travel up to 50 miles or so for work. Using Documents To Go or checking my email on the BlackBerry means that I don't have to get my laptop out on a crowded train. I also play games and use it as a media player to make the journey appear to pass more quickly!
I have an appalling sense of direction, so if I'm going to a library or archive I haven't frequented before, the BlackBerry's gps and Google Maps are invaluable in helping me find where I need to be.
I've only had my BB for just over a month, but I really can't imagine how I managed without one for so long!
