So what anti virus software do you use for your desktop or laptop, and how would you rate it? I just bought a new laptop for my girlfriend and it came with a trial of Norton 2009 that expires soon so was looking for software... I keep hearing Kaspersky's from most people I ask so I thought I'd see what you guys thought.

Kaspersky internet security suite is by far the best.. No question. But I use a series of programs on my pc.. Avg antivirus, sygate personal firewall, tuneup utilities 2009, and spybot search and destroy.

Nortan antivirus is horrible. I had it on my old HP. I think it caused more problems. I hear AVG is good though. I've got windows Vista and the only thing protecting it is windows defender. I've had it for about a year now. Piles of web browsing, limewire downloads, movies. Still runs as good as the day I got it

Windows Live OneCare & it's been problem free. I was one of the clueless fools that WAS using McAfee's. I'd gave up computing, all online functions and the internet before ever having to go back to McAfee's.

I think I'll give that a try; the Antivirus version. I take it you are running this on your PC? The Forbes article was an interesting read also from the ESET website...

By 'crappy' you mean...? Just trying to decide whether to buy this software or not. Does it not offer adequate protection?

I second this statement...I use Avira antivirus and malwarebyte on both of my laptops. Norton is terrible...waste of $$$. I did use AVG at one point in time as well, and didn't have any trouble with that either. Avast is also pretty good, but it noticeably slows up the computer.

I've been an AVG user for years. I'd highly recommend it. Has rootcleaner as an option on the more premium versions.

I've also tried Zone alarm and that worked well, but it was a resource hog in my opinion. Made my computer lag a bit.
