There is a town called Centralia, Pennsylvania that has a large coal vein running beneath the town streets. A trash fire got out of hand sometime in the 60s and lit the coal vein on fire. There has been an underground inferno raging beneath Centralia's streets for over 40 years now, and geologists estimate it will continue to burn for anotherr 100 years or so! The city used to be home to over 1000 residents, but only 10 or 11 people live there now. Centralia is what the town in the Silent Hill movie is based on. How cool/ weird is that?
