Wanted to start a thread about vets. Who here is one, who is married to one, or is a family mamber of a vet or soldier. I myself did 8 years with only 1 deployment with KFOR in 99. I do not consider myself a veteran as one would a soldier that was in like ww1 or ww2. But just as a retired soldier that was more than happy to give his all to his country. So who else here has raised their right hand for their country?

I tried, but was not allowed. It was a dream of mine for years. But, my dad is a veteran, and my grandfather was a vet of WW2. I also have 2 nephews, one is getting ready to pull his second tour in Iraq. The other is a sniper getting ready to pull his second tour in Afghanistan.

There is no higher calling at the moment IMHO, than those who are giving all to protect us and our Freedom. Whether anyone agrees or disagrees with this war above all, everyone needs to welcome, thank, and take care of those who are serving, have served, or will serve in the future.

Any vets reading this? Thank you so much from all of my heart and my family's heart for everything you have given and continue to give. You surely deserve more than the government can or will ever do for you.

I served in the Air Force - during the Viet Nam war. I grew up in the Navy (Dad) and Air Force (Step-Dad). A member of my family has served in the military all the way back to the Revolution.

Navy Vet, 2 WesPac deployments, served aboard the test ship for the Tomahawk Cruise Missile (U.S.S. Merrill DD-976) and tanker escort aboard the U.S.S. Fox (CG-33). Dad was a Missile Combat Crew Commander for Titan IIs, his dad served in Alaska during WWII.

Many other vets in the family, WWI,II,Korea, Nam, and more to come.

Wifes' great uncle received CMH at Tinian, posthumously, after surviving Guadalcanal, Tarawa, and others. He gave his life for fellow Marines by leaping on a grenade. Semper Fi, Robert L. Wilson.

To my brothers, sisters, and their families, the best wishes for you all.
