- I was just watching some UFC on televison and i began to wonder if UFC/MMA is more violent than boxing. Personally I think boxing is more violent. I think Ufc is more controlled than boxing.
I'd like to know what you guys think.08-14-08 01:59 AMLike 0 - ufc is definately more violent. I think in every way the ufc, mma is more violent. knees, holds, chokes, fist, elbows...... its kind of uncommon to not see someone bleed in a fight...08-14-08 02:18 AMLike 0
- Check this article out. It might be a "little" biased though.
UFC's Dana White says MMA is safer than boxing08-14-08 02:23 AMLike 0 - I believe MMA is a **** of a lot safer, look at people who have retired from boxing. I would assume a large amount of them have in some way shape or form Brain and or nerve damage. I only know of 1 actual death in an MMA event but I believe it was later proved that it was due to a pre existing medical condition and I know a few have died in the boxing ring. I'll have more info to back it up later today. But I'm at work

Posted from my CrackBerry at wapforums.crackberry.com08-14-08 11:54 AMLike 0 - I think there are two questions here, each with a different answer...
1) Which sport is more VIOLENT (MMA)
2) Which sport is more DESTRUCTIVE to the athlete. (Boxing)
Because you can't use grapples/holds/takedowns in boxing, the only way to get the other fighter on the canvas is to pound him with your mitts until he submits. The cumulative damage may well be worse for the brain and nervous system of the fighters than MMA, but more violent? I don't think so. Never seen anybody hyperextend a joint in boxing or choke a guy into unconsciousness.
Now as for which of the two is the BETTER SPORT?

the ref will step in and halt the fight.
UFC/MMA should not even be considered a sport. Definitely more violent,
but it's meant to be. In boxing, name me one single instance where you are allowed to continue punching a person who is on their back. In boxing, are you
allowed to kick someone in the face? NO!08-27-08 12:31 AMLike 0 - Whoa whoa whoa, u need to calm the heck down. In boxing when a fighter is knocked down on the brink of about to be knocked out cold the ref stops the fight and LET'S THE HALF ALIVE boxer get back up to continue the fight. If I remember correctly there are no 3knock down rule in a title box match. So a fighter can come back for more *** whoppin for 12rds if he wants.
In MMA if a fighter gets knocked down (ex: GSP kickin Matt hughes hughes went down half dazed GSP got in a dominate position Ground and pounded hughes country farm *** till the ref declared that hughes could not continue to defend himself and called the fight) 8 min of fightin compared to 12rds of boxers beatin the **** out of each ohter because "I can't lose coach I can't" mentality.

More dangerous? boxing
MMA refs keep complete control in the octagon. If an athlete shows the faintest sign of not being able to intelligently defend themselves, he stops the fight. Sure they get a wider array of gruesome looking injuries but they either heal or stop fighting. I would personally rather walk with a limp or something like that than have brain damage.08-27-08 04:00 PMLike 0 - hmm, get a piece of my ear bitten off by a disgruntled boxer
ORRRRRRRRRRRR
Get sloppy with my take down defense and end up with my head in my opponents smelly sweaty crotch (triangle lock)?????
i know i have funky lookin ears but they are both there no pieces missing.08-27-08 05:28 PMLike 0 - amazinglygracelessRetired ModYou either cannot be serious or do not watch much boxing. Refs
have all kinds of latitude to stop fights and it is all discretionary.
Combine that with the fact that the ring doctors, cornermen, or the
fighter themselves can halt the match and you have all kinds of built in safety.
MMA/UFC exist for absolutely no other reason but to be the violent, redneck, trailer park cousin of boxing.08-27-08 11:01 PMLike 0 - Ring doctors? UFC has that the main man is "stitch"....Corner men....check...Fighters calling it quits oh yeah...its called Tap out. And apparently seeing how MMA is thee fastest growing sport in the world out surpassing boxing then any and all MMA fans are red neck trailer park trash?
I take it Bruce Lee was a red neck too? I mean using his feet/shin to annihilate opponents or his hands elbows knees also, is that too violent too?
And ur right I do not watch boxing WAY too many weight classes too many belts and promotion companies to decide who truly is a "PfP best fighter" over hyped fights, childish fighters when asked about future fights (mayweather retiring before he could face de la hoya again, come on the first fight wasn't one sided give the fans what they want Zeb Juda almost beat money mayweather had his f*ckin corner not jumped in after the accidental low blow) The only reason I do watch boxing is for the Mexicutioner Paquiao that's it he fights to fight, prove he's the best.
Posted from my CrackBerry at wapforums.crackberry.com08-28-08 11:30 AMLike 0 - Boxing has been around a very long time and during that time has had several deaths happen as a result of it. The one that always stands out to me is Ray Boom Boom Mancini killing his opponent in the ring after 15 rounds of brutal shots to the head. Not saying all boxing matches end this way but where was the ref in this one?08-28-08 04:56 PMLike 0
