Umm Haji, WTF? I've got to know what your router can do.
I've had a few Linsys's before this one, and they couldn't handle the massive ammount of connections that I would have open. This one also scans e-mails for virus's, and has QoS. I built it with server grade components, which is where the cost comes from. The software I got from SmoothWall Express. Its free.

There are more capabilities it has, but I won't bore you with the details. And considering that it is a full blown PC, it only pulls 27 watts out of the wall.

Not a touch screen panda, my nails work fine.

Interesting Haji, and I bookmarked that firewall site. As a PC, I would expect the power supply fan to take up half of that.

Well, my router resides in a 1U case. The PSU fan is a 40mm, and doesn't spin fast at all. For those interested, here are the full specs of my router:

    Intel Celeron 420 @ 1.6 GHz
Supermicro SNK-P0032A4 1U Active Copper Heatsink
    Supermicro PDSML-LN2+ Motherboard w/ Intel 3000/ICH7R Chipset
    Supermicro AOC-1UIPMI-B Management Module
    Kingston KVR667D2E5/1G DDR2-667 ECC 1 Gig DIMM x2
Supermicro SC502-200B 1U Server Chassis w/ 200 Watt High Efficiency PSU
Western Digital 80 Gig SATA HDD

The motherboard has a pair of Intel 82573 Gigabit network cards integrated, which is what I use for the WAN/LAN interfaces. It's drastic overkill for what I do with it, but it'll last forever and a day, except for the hard drive, and I've got a ton of those laying around.

    Hello TBL.

I've been out for most of the day, so I haven't been around. Hope you all had a nice Sunday.
I've been home for an hour or two, reading up on wifi. On that note, I have a couple questions for Haji.

Haji: (or Jef). Tell me if any of this doesn't make sense.
From what I've read so far, I am looking at getting an 802.11g router.
    . Simplest to set up.
. 100-150 foot real world range is more than enough for my small house.
    . WPA encryption. (security)
    . MAC address filtering. (security)

I haven't confirmed it yet, but iPhone is wireless g. And if device is g, then router should be as well.
Someone on another forum suggested I get a router with wireless n, which is backwards compatible with g. Then I read elsewhere that you shouldn't mix devices with different standards on the same LAN, as it can slow everything down. Right now my iPhone would be the only device on my network, as I don't have a laptop yet.

    Confirmed. It's wireless b/g.

    The g router is fine.

As for that garbage about mixing devices, that only applies if most of the WiFi traffic is going to stay within the LAN.

With you using an iPhone, and eventually a laptop, most of your traffic will be over the internet, and your connection to the internet will be your bottleneck.

In short, get the g based router. It will be sufficient for your needs.

    Very welcome!

If you have any setup issues, let us know. I'll have my international package through the end of the month, so it will prolly be dirt cheap for me to call you.

As I told Ed, if your initial WiFi setup doesn't work, turn off all your security and try to connect, then add security, as much as you feel is necessary. I've just got mine set to not broadcast it's SSID (network name) so if you don't know it's there, you need some special tools to find it.

I don't have anything on my network worth hiding.

Awe Jef, I found it both interesting, and absurd. I need to figure out why I don't have super duper speed, but I wanna myself. I will be askin if I can't solve it though.

    Ed, don't use Kryptonite cables.

Alright, it's Monday, and I've had 3 hours of sleep. Bring on the workday!

    Jef:
I'll probably order one from newegg, they have pretty good pricing. Also, BestBuy and Future Shop only seem to carry wireless n routers.

Funny you should mention Tigerdirect. I think I'm gonna get this one:
Buy the Linksys WRT54G2 Wireless G Router at TigerDirect.ca
    it's 'recertified' but for $40.00 I'll take a chance.

    Just to clarify:
Along with the router, I also need an interface card?
(If my pc didn't come with one, and if one doesn't come with the router).
