That does sound pretty odd to not install tracks for them to run on. How often did the drivers stray and dewire?
Not too often, dewirement was rare. On bad days, it was often. RIP toronto trolley service 192x-1993.

I'm surprised they didn't have a small generator on there they could start up if they got disconnected from grid power. Seems like that would have been a rather common sense thing to add.

Yup, the trolleys had rubber tires like any bus would and they couldn't operate if they happened to dewire. Streetcars, there are only 10 now, verses the original 50 before the subway was built.

Not sure what you meant here RB.
    They have hundreds of streetcars.
    Did you mean streetcar ROUTES?

That seems completely insane RB, and perfectly fitting with such a socialist country.
Yes, replacing clean, quiet vehicles with noisy, diesel-stinky, smog producing vehicles is considered progress by capitalist standards.
    YAY! WE WIN!

    Good morning.

Quite Brian. Having been to Toronto, I knew it was on the lake, and having dated a girl from Detroit, knew there was an amusement park on an island. The rest of the story I hadn't the foggiest on. Did the trollies have train wheels to run on tracks, or did the driver have to keep it connected?

Nap is over young lady, time to get that booty in gear, and get it to work. Hmmmmmm, that almost sounds like I just told panda to work that booty.
an I was tired yest I had to tell bf bye for the week I had been up since 5am. Went to sleep around 7pm till I had to get up for work. I had alot of work to do tonight at least its not to much longer to go home!!!

I don't see why they wouldn't do that, it would make allot of sense, japan's trolleys use battery packs to temporarily dewire for detours.

    Good morning.
Yup, there are only 9 streetcar routes out of the original 80. TTC made some bad moves.
