I cannot imagine a college student nowadays not having the Internet.

The cheapest DSL plan here is $20/month. Cheaper than BB data plan.

Wow. That is expensive for DSL. I have the fastest version 6 Mbps down/768 Kbps up for only $35/month.

Do you have cable TV available? If so, it might be cable Internet. If not, it is probably satellite Internet, which is expensive.

Ok. Comcast? Cable Internet usually is more expensive than DSL. Do you have Verizon landline phone service available? Or is your landline carrier Fairpoint?

Verizon offers DSL. I'm not sure about Fairpoint.

Ok. I have a couple friends in the New England area. One works in the telecom business. Verizon divested of some of its landline market, and Fairpoint took over. My friend says Fairpoint is bad.

We have Time-Warner cable here. We also have Cox and WOW. Comcast is not available here, but they are a huge cable carrier.

Depending on how rural it is, there are still a lot of rural areas not covered by DSL. You must be less rural than me, since I can't get cable or DSL at my house. My only options are going with a wireless provider, tethering which I do now, dialup, or satellite internet.

There's twicks to doing it with at&t trruble, but Bolt will let you upload files to darn near every site too. I've been using the crap out of it to upload my resume.
