So i was sitting in a hospital waiting room today (had to escort a soldier who passed out in formation). While i was there i pulled out my iPhone to check if i had any messeges from the family, or friends, and then pulled out my Blackberry Tour 9630 to respond to some work email i hadn't got to this morning upon waking up. There was a gentleman sitting next to me roughly 23 or so, and while beside him i noticed he was on a Blackberry as well, but it was a Pearl 81XX series. Something about it just didn't look right. I guess i could be being a sexist or something, but what do you guys think when seeing grown men with a Pearl 8100 series phone. I know this could easily be a dumb topic but I was wondering what you guys thought. Is there a such thing as a male Blackberry and Female Blackberry, or smartphone for that matter?

I definitely think that a phone like the Pearl would be something seen with more women, simply because it's smaller or came in different colors when it first came out I don't know. On the other hand, a large phone like a 9000 would seem more like a male phone to me for its size. I think anyone could have any phone though but from that standpoint, that's how it seems.

I think the Pearl series is viewed by most as the more feminine BB, for really no other reason than the name itself I would imagine, and I would think that the form factor would have something to do with that as well. Whether it's right or wrong, I feel that's the way it's viewed. On the flip side, I would think a device like the Bold 9000 would be viewed more as the masculine BB, for the same reasons, it's large, named Bold, etc.

I can see what you mean, it's kind of like a biker with a chiuaua named Princess.

Really it doesn't matter what model it is, they all generally operate the same, offer alot of the same things, just in a different package, and the Pearl package seems to be directed more towards women, smaller size works better for the smaller hands, most gals don't like having a big bulky brick of a phone, etc. When we got my GF a BB, she didn't pay much attention to the Curve that was also offered, she focused in on the Pearl, mainly because of how it looked. I don't particularly care for the Pearl form factor, mainly because I just don't like how it feels in my hands, but I've come across more than one guy with a Pearl, and they really like them. To each their own!

My buddy has a Pearl 81XX and I always get a little uncomfortable when he starts using it. LOL. I tried to convince him to get a 9700, but he says he doesn't see the point. If he gets the new Pearl 9100 we may have to have a serious talk LMBO!!!

I had the Pearl (my first BB) and i used to get non-stop heat for it from my other BB owning friends. I personally wouldn't use a Pearl series phone again because mainly i don't think a grown man looks right with a Pearl. Funny enough most BB using females i know don't like the Pearl either.

Mainly: I would say the Pearl series is more female and the 8800 series is manly.

I also slightly feel like the Curve is more female based, and the Bold 9000 more manly.

The Pearl was/is my favorite form factor. As soon as the trackpad and 3G come, I'll be dropping my 9700 for it.

I don't believe there is really a "girl/female" or "boy/male" BlackBerry. I do see how a "pink" one may be considered more feminine than a "silver" device.

Phones may be one of the only things that some males wouldn't mind having the smallest of

I agree with the colors (pink) more than the device itself. I know women that have the 9700, 9000 and the 9550 and guys that have the Pearl. We always give my buddies crap about the pearl though. It just looks funny now because of all the other phones out there.

i think if there were to be a "female" BB, the Pearl would fit in that category. i do agree that color really makes a difference. personally, i've never seen a guy with a Pearl. my wife also thinks the Pearl is girly

After the 7230 I got the Pearl 8100 because of it's size. I got the 9700 because it is more proportionally shaped especailly compared to the 9000. To each his own. I have had old b/w Palms to the E2 to the TX. I still carry the TX from time to time. They served their purpose for the time. Always had to use a stylus, what a pain. However, a touch screen phone is a girly phone to me. A guy looks like a real pansy holding a phone with one hand and fingering it with the other. Again, to each his own. Free world, use what ya like.

Am I the only one that thinks the 9700 is a bit girly? Well, as opposed to the Bold 9000 anyway.

    Here's some food for thought:

    - If the Pearl was called an 81xx Stealth and available only in black, would you still think it's a feminine phone?

    - If you're judging the "manliness" of a Blackberry based strictly on size, would all SureType devices then be considered "girly"? Consider that the 81xx series is no bigger or smaller than most candybar dumbphones.

To me, the Pearl is more of a "candybar" phone instead of the conventional BlackBerry. Get whatever phone you like and don't pay attention to others!
