Why are some people obsessed with getting the "Thanks" button?

The whole concept is lame. People think they will get some kind of trophy if their thanks count is high and they desperately put messages in their signature "If you like my post press here"

They should remove this whole thing IMO

I don't mind having or using the Thanks button. But I just didn't know why it was such a big deal for some people lol! Oh well, whatever makes them happy I guess
