I don't know enough to have an opinion of him, but I didn't like most politicians. That said, death is never easy for the surviving family and friends, and my heart and thoughts go out to them.
I too was saddened this morning by this news. Agree with his politics or not (and for the record, I do), the man served his country valiantly for 46 years, wrote thousands of bills and co-sponsored countless more. He truly was an icon the likes of which we won't see again.

He will be deeply missed.

Ted Kennedy was without a doubt a statesman and the single
most effective Senator in the history of the Republic. Those are
not only my words, they are the words of conservatives such
as Orrin Hatch, Bob Kerry, Pat Buchanan, G. Gordon Liddy,
Trent Lott, Cal Thomas and many others. Statesman, not
a politician.
The thing that has always impressed me is that he was never
bitter and more than most he had every right to be. Public
service was never about him. It was always about the people
he was elected to serve and by extension all Americans.
Thanks guys. It is very nice to see a tribute to the departed
thread not devolve into, well you know.
No, I did not agree with every Ted Kennedy position. I do
respect the man and truly respect his ability to overcome
and that he understood what the word bipartisan meant.
I've had my ups and downs with him over the years. I extend my condolences to his family, and a hiss to his compatriots who are using his passing to try and bamboozle the people.

And so the last brother has died. Many family's have given greatly to our country, and the Kennedy's surely have a place among them. Joe died on a dangerous mission in WWII; John died from an assassin's bullet after being elected President and after serving with heroism during WWII; Bobby killed by an assassin's bullet after years of public service and while running for President - and odds were another Kennedy would have beaten Nixon again; now the last, Teddy, has died of brain cancer. He served from 1960 until he died - 49 years. He could have lived the life of a wealthy heir, but he didn't. He served us. A rich man who cared about the least of us. He will be missed.

Mr. liberal lion...may you rest in peace; and may you be given just due for not only the good that you achieved for masses; but for the unfathomable pain you've endured in your personal life.
