I loved his stand up comedy such as Live at the Met. Used to watch it over and over again. Mork and Mindy was one on my favorite shows as a child. He will be sadly missed

It is sad, because just by how we all "knew" him, you would never think he was suffering from depression.
You never know what people might be going through on the inside.

Well the corner said he was found with a belt around his neck, and a knife with blood. ????
you should google and find out his struggle with depression, drugs and alcohol.
Sigh another legend has died. Lauren Bacall at 89.
More sad news,
They say the famous celebrities dies in three. So some are waiting to see who is next.

I've been so heartbroken about Robin Williams, I couldn't bear even reading the obituaries. He was the absolute top in the entertainment world for me. Friends knew he'd been battling depression, but I guess nobody knew just how bad it had gotten. How someone who brought joy to so many could go out like this is unthinkable. :-(
RIP Robin. I hope you and Jonathan Winters are making the gods laugh somewhere now.

That would be Lauren Bacal

It's an isolation disease. There's a reluctance in reaching out for help even if there's love ones around.

That was #2 as posted above,
Actually, with James Garner passing last week Williams is arguably #2 and Bacall is #3.

Good call fine sir.
Thanks. I'm bummed to see all of them go, though.

Yes we are losing to many of the good people these days, young and old.
Thanks for the laughs Robin, I wrote a short tribute/ blog late last night after I heard the sad news. Check it out if anyone has time & let me know what you think.
Laughter truly is the best medicine
Lovely, Shane. Thank you.

Depression is anything but logical

Depression alone had rarely drove people to kill their selves before anti depression pills were introduced.

This comment betrays extraordinary ignorance about depression, medication and suicide.
We don't have any information about any medications that Williams may have been taking, so this comment in this context is quite irresponsible.

Self preservation is a human instinct. But we also have an emergency kill switch build inside us. It's very easy to be an observer making judgement and deliberating how and why one did what he or she did. We are build the same and we are not. Some survive from depression others don't. It's more common than not majority suffers bout of depression to a various degree. There's no straight up cure for that. Many elements come into play whether one can survive or perish. Robin affected us more because the influence of his arts. How can someone make millions feel good but can't make himself be affected like one of us?
