Why is this stock tanking so bad?
Where have you been... MANY stocks have been tanking lately. Whether RIM's been taking a more harsh hit than the average, I don't know... If that's what you meant, I apologize.
Yes, that's what I meant. It seems that RIM is getting really beat up. I recall last week it was up nearly 16 pts than what it's at today.
Well, in that case, I have no idea. Unless its some sort of media backlash that the Storm didn't live up to what was expected of it (cause the media tends to be an apple supporter -- not always), so investors aren't as interested in buying/holding the stock. Any ideas?
Just the way the market is. RIM will keep it's core of business and government users, but the consumer market may be slow for a time, it'll come back. It's a well run company with lots of growth potential. They continue R&D and bringing new products to market. Like with almost all stocks right now, tough times are here. I'm holding on and waiting it out - what choice do we have?

I know some people who got in around a $100/share... OUCH!
Yeah, the Market is like a trip to Vegas sometimes. I have read we aren't going to see much improvement for at least a year. :( I feel for those people who were going to retire soon, they will have to keep working, and holding on to jobs that would have gone to younger workers. Thanks Wall Street.

What is the price now per share?
My father was one of those people going to retire this summer. Fortunately, he's only 48 (military time + police time = retire after 25 years) so now that his pension's taken a dump, he's going to work through the economic slump for a 2-3 more years, then retire. Understandably, he's not real happy about having to postpone his move from Northeast Ohio to S. Carolina or Georgia to be the first mate on a charter fishing boat!
Here's an article............
*disregard bad link*
The drop in stocks (not just in RIM's stocks) are subject to the overall volatility of the stock market PARTICULARLY in this recessiononary-environment.
The BIG compounding factor that is effecting overall all stocks now is the uncertainty surrounding what impact (if any) the newly-passed economic stimulus package will have.
Now more than ever before; the stock market is TRULY a game for the financially-healthy investors who can afford for their money to sit idle as many stocks are sitting at all-time lows. Eventually many of these stocks will rise in valuation; unfortunately not many (save the truly wealthy) can afford for their money to be tied up in stocks waiting for the FUTURE; when they can use that money towards other things in the PRESENT.

$60.05... "May be delayed up to 20 minutes".
Thanks for the article CK.
Roger that.... your welcome
Good article C K. It explains a lot but witout at least mentioning how the iPhone had the same sort of issues when it came out makes the article seem like its lacking a certain objectivity to it. IMO
Hiya Dr Jay. I really am not familiar what the effect the 1g release had on Apples stock.
It went up no? I'm a VERY ignorant of what happened with Apple. Perhaps somebody else can shed some light on that?
*edit: cant get rid of double post sorry*

I don't have any idea what happened to Apple's stock after the release of the iPhone either, but up or down, it was a much stronger market then, that's for sure. I guess my point was that even though the Storm had/has bugs, so did the iPhone and because its such a new phone that has such a strong user base, its initial bugs won't have as much impact on the stocks. If the Storm was released when the initial iPhone was, IMO RIM's stock would have climbed as well. And by that I mean if the Storm was released 2 years ago and the iPhone before that. I think the drop in stock prices is more due to the manufacturing deals described in the article... not problems with the phone.
Damn... Down another $3.00 today so far...
Ouch... you weren't one of those that bought it at $100 a share were you?
Nope... RIM stocks were too rich for my blood... However, my mother in law... =X
Geeez. I feel for your mother. However, at that pace, in a few weeks we will all be able to afford a few shares to hold onto before they start go back up. Just make sure she doesn't sell them that low. I highly doubt RIM's going to go under and she'll lose that money, but if she keeps it she can recoup most, if not all, of that money, if/when the stock gets back over a hundred
I told her to hold on to them thinking that they couldn't drop any lower than 65... Maybe she should buy more so her avg cost will break even... Damn this economy.
But on a side note, I just uploaded .103 and so far, so good!
That's what I'd do... but would wait until it looks like the market might rebound. Right now it doesn't look like that's going to happen any time soon (next 1-3 months) so buying now (around $45 right?) will still lose money. If it were my money, I'd wait until mid April. The beginning of April is around the time that the housing market picks up from winter, and I think that's going to have to happen before the rest of the market starts to rebound.
I am NOT educated in any sort of economics, so this is just my opinion from what I've seen and heard on TV, radio, and one stock market class I took in high school, so don't take it as gospel. Anyone with some real knowledge care to enlighten me/us?
And yes, I like .103 too! Having a few hiccups here and there, but no different than any other leaked we've had! I'm telling you, I think the BB Browser is almsot as fast as Bolt! I've loaded 4-5 different pages and counted (in my head) how fast it loaded, and the BBB was only 1-3 seconds behind every time! Not like the 15 it used to be.
