Please help stop Puppy Mills - Vote YES on Prop B in MO
This post is mostly for those who live in Missouri, but others might find it educational.
You must have heard about the debate on Prop B. Some say it is the government trying to control agricultural department. Others, including Humane Society of US, see it as the light at the end of the tunnel for poor dogs whose only purpose in life is to produce puppies without a natural cycle break. When unable to breed (usually after 3 years) the dogs are gassed, injected, shot, drowned. All of that is outside the public eye.
During rare crackdowns, officers report that most of the dogs are unable to walk - not because they are sick - but because they have never been outside their crate their entire life. They live in wire crates, stacked on top of each other, 4-5 on top of each other, hundreds of crates. Some puppy mills have thousands of dogs. The truth is - Missouri has become one of the worst states, along with Pennsylvania, on puppy mill situation.
There are countless undercover videos on youtube, even animal planet has aired features about it. Without this Prop B becoming the law, law enforcement doesn't have enough powers to regulate and enforce humane breeding practices. Current laws require some food and some water to be available, along with vet care if the dog is sick. The new law will require adequate food, constant water presence, documented regular vet visits and not more than 50 dogs per breeder. Breeding will be restricted to no more than twice every 18 month. NO MORE wire crates without cushion beds, NO MORE stacked crates. A license will be required to be a breeder, and breaking the rules will mean no license. It won't stop them, but it will give some relief.
Please, if you vote, vote yes on Prop B for the little animals that aren't allowed to speak for themselves.
