    There's a difference between "your" and "you're".
So many words people use sound like the one they mean to use.

I always thought "loan" was only a noun. ("He repayed the loan.") It irritated me when people were saying "He loaned me his BlackBerry" when in my opinion it should have been "He lent me his BlackBerry." Then I looked it up, and "loan" was also a verb. Still, I think it's stupid. I use "lend" as the verb and "loan" as a noun.

    alternately and alternatively.

Alternately is an adverb that means in turn; one after the other. Alternatively is an adverb that means on the other hand; one or the other.

Standard: We alternately spun the wheel in the game.
Standard: You can choose a large bookcase or, alternatively, you can buy two small ones.

    Advise vs. advice.

I advise (verb) you to take an umbrella because it's raining.

Mary did not take my advice (noun), so she got wet.

    suite and suit...

Here in the south I always hear people refer to their bedroom suit, meaning the group of furniture in the bedroom normally described as a suite. I've even heard it on TV commercials. Another reason most people should never do their own commercials...

    lose and loose.

Lose can mean "fail to win", "misplace", or "cease to be in possession". Loose can mean the opposite of tight, or the opposite of tighten.

Standard: We cannot afford to lose customers to our competitors.
Standard: A screw is loose and I need a screwdriver to tighten it.
