I always thought "loan" was only a noun. ("He repayed the loan.") It irritated me when people were saying "He loaned me his BlackBerry" when in my opinion it should have been "He lent me his BlackBerry." Then I looked it up, and "loan" was also a verb. Still, I think it's stupid. I use "lend" as the verb and "loan" as a noun.

Here in the south I always hear people refer to their bedroom suit, meaning the group of furniture in the bedroom normally described as a suite. I've even heard it on TV commercials. Another reason most people should never do their own commercials...

Lose can mean "fail to win", "misplace", or "cease to be in possession". Loose can mean the opposite of tight, or the opposite of tighten.

Standard: We cannot afford to lose customers to our competitors.
Standard: A screw is loose and I need a screwdriver to tighten it.
