    Is it just me or does most popcorn taste like polystyrene packing?


    Except that sugary butterkist stuff I used to have as a kid wonder if you can still get it?

    It is YOU. Well, there are different brands and some plain popcorn can be quite tasty.

    I was just out for sushi. Some of the Japanese wait staff cannot speak Japanese and occasionally get curious looks from the Japanese speaking clientele.

    When I was in Europe with my most German sounding last name and my friend with his equally sounding Italian would get perplexed looks as we shugged our way through conversations in those respective tongues which we know little of! The US and Canada tend to remove native tongues in our heritages.

    Are you sure those wait staff are Japanese? We got many Japanese restaurants in Toronto. I only been to one that is actually operated by Japanese. The rest are either Korean or Chinese.

    No, some of these folks are Japanese. I've spoken with them over the years. Grew up in this area and are as Americanized as those of us a generation or two removed from our ancestors who came over in the 1920's or so. The owner occasionally makes light fun of them - he is from Japan but speaks a very fluent English - he takes me to baseball games and makes fun of my lack of knowledge about baseball! There was one rather interesting twist on this - one of the Japanese sushi chefs is an American citizen - he was born here but then returned to Japan when it was 3 or 4 and speaks a very broken English but is American! Well, he has dual citizenship.
