    As you've realized, this quote was from Apollo 13 (1995), in which the mission commander, Capt. Jim Lovell (played by Tom Hanks) made this transmission back to Houston went everything went south.

    A couple of years later, our organization hired Jim Lovell as a keynote speaker for a conference. I was in charge of the conference logistics, including liaison with some speakers. When I met him and shook his hand, I could only think "Holy s***! This hand has been in space!" To make a long story short, I sat in a bar and drank with him while he modestly discussed the episode.

    That's awesome. How different was his story from how it was portrayed in the movie?

    Not much -- a bit of dramatic license added to the movie. Lovell was a special consultant to the writers and Ron Howard for the movie, and it was based on the book he co-authored. Lovell also made a cameo appearance in the movie as the captain of the USS Iwo Jima, the ship that picked up the Apollo crew after they splashed down.

    This one was driving me crazy because I just knew I knew it. So I cheated and Googled it. But since indeed I was wrong and have never seen the movie I aint gonna post the answer.
