Wasn't there a song letters from Vietnam? And a song about the Green Berets too. I have to do some checking, but some of the words are...fearless men who jump and die...men who mean just what they say...the brave men of the Green Beret.

That song is "Ballad of the Green Berets" by SSG Barry Sadler

    Fighting soldiers from the sky
Fearless men who jump and die
Men who mean just what they say
The brave men of the Green Beret

    Silver wings upon their chest
    These are men, America's best
One hundred men will test today
But only three win the Green Beret

Trained to live off nature's land
    Trained in combat, hand-to-hand
Men who fight by night and day
Courage peak from the Green Berets

    Silver wings upon their chest
    These are men, America's best
One hundred men will test today
But only three win the Green Beret

Back at home a young wife waits
Her Green Beret has met his fate
He has died for those oppressed
    Leaving her his last request

Put silver wings on my son's chest
Make him one of America's best
He'll be a man they'll test one day
Have him win the Green Beret.

Thanks for the words. I used to know that song by heart. Probably have the 45 in my basement. I did pretty good remembering it! I can't think of the words to the other one.

Ladies and Gentlemen, by request, once again Barry Sadler!

Oh lord I'm tired and sad
and I want you oh so bad
I've been away so very long
now I want to go home.

So remember that I love you
    that, my dear is true
just say a prayer for your man."

"Last night we had a fire fight
machine guns firing tracers through the night
    and as we fought,
my thoughts, they turned to you
and I knew, somehow, darling I'll come thrgouh

    I've fought in many places
and I've seen war's thousand faces
but after this, my wars are through
and I'll-I'll come home to you

    Even thought I'm far away
I'll think of you each day
I'll come home when I can"

I have a great story about a POW bracelet I wore for years when I was a teenager...the guy whose bracelet I wore was released and his picture ended up on the front page of the NY Daily News...which was my hometown paper at the time!!! Its a pic of him getting off the plane and meeting his son for the first time. I still have the newspaper too. In that same paper it lists the names of all the POWs from the Vietnam war and John McCain's name is listed. My guy was a POW for 7 years. He even wrote me a thank you note for wearing the bracelet. I couldn't believe out of all the POWs that he is the one who was on the front page of the paper. I was thrilled!!!
