    Hey all!

I'm interested to start reading the Marvel comics, and am planning to start by reading the Civil War event! It looks really interesting.

Is that a good place to start? And is there any previous collections I should read to get more context?

It really doesn't matter where you start at this point.
Unless you go back and start at volume 1, issue 1, there will be things you don't know.
Civil War is a great anthology, and is a fine place to start. Some of the dramatic effects may be lost on you if you haven't been following these characters for a while, such as the role Captain America plays, as well as some of the things Spiderman does.... but it doesn't change the story, just makes it less impactful.

Zombies is another good anthology to read, but it is more 'out there'.
    Civil War is soo amazing.

If you are concerned about not knowing back stories, try DC's New 52 series'. They have rebooted all of their franchises and you can get in on the ground floor this time! I'm more of a marvel guy myself, but I like DC as well.

You'll never catch up with everything. There's many thousands if issues. Pick a hero and stick to it if you want it all. Otherwise, just jump around.

I'm sure there would have been a cross-over event before??

Like maybe the justice league vs avengers? Haha

Spider-Man with his Spider Senses could sense them all coming and BAM! Evasion and fight.

They've teamed up. There's all sorts of marvel/DC crossovers.

Civil War is fantastic. I have the collected editors, and some of the extra books.

I was particularly impressed with Civil War runaways.

Despite what a lot of people say, I kind of liked on more day. Not a huge fan of Superior Spiderman though, I like Peter Parker

    Superman.
It was a rhetorical question. Superman is all of the avengers rolled into one.

But he can't Web and dodge simultaneous attacks from all directions at once. They have the numbers advantage.

Yeah I've got the collected edition for just the main story, but been thinking if I should get the other tie-ins. There's so many of them!
