Someone mentioned the racial aspect to it's being illegal, if I remember right, there's some truth to that. It was criminalized a long long time ago when our attitudes about intoxicating substances were quite different. I think we should legalize it and separate it from truly harmful drugs like crank and heroin. It is so easy for kids to get, unlike alcohol. I know kids do get booze, but it is harder for them to get. They have to find someone old enough to buy alcohol, etc, but pot is available everywhere.
Of course jail sentences will need to be commuted, but those issues are relatively easy administrative tasks that can be accomplished fairly quickly. I for one would love to see prison cells open up for violent offenders.
