    indeed.

About Telstra - History of Telstra
"1981 Telecom launches the country's first mobile network the Public Automatic Mobile Telephone System (PAMTS) and car phone, a significant development in communication for travelling workers."

i started with pagers, (remember those ) had a fixed car phone, then in 87/88 got the motorola transportable. man that was literally a brick.

most of the devices were part of 1/2 year contract - the phone was supplied "free" amortised over the life of the contract. most were locked to the carrier, but you could transfer the number. some were hand me downs and/or can i borrow.

the phones i actually purchased outright were:

    1995 Nokia 2110i - $1200+ aud *the first digital 2G GSM service.
    2015 Blackberry Classic - $504 aud.

    QWERTY,
    3G,
    SD expansion,
    *Ovi maps with free navigation'
    Illuminating Navi key.

    What was not to like!

I reckon i spent the better part of my spare time on the following blogs.

Beautiful to hold, just gorgeous. Imo better than the E72

Yes, E71 was better than E72 for a lot of users but it didn't have the breathing service/notification indicator around the 4-way button, did it?

Agreed! Absolutely stunning design. And yes the d-pad 4way had an led behind it that should pulse/flash for notifications.

I also notice a lot of people had the 3GS, which to this day I think had an elegant design for a plastic phone.

Well the 3GS all the way until the 4S was at the peak of Apple's popularity.

Nowadays, Samsung is taking over, and BlackBerry is taking about 1% of the old Apple fans.
