Success DOES NOT translate to meaningful contributions.

All of your stats supports my view that the average music listener would not know
good music if it slapped them in the face.

What exactly did Madonna do for women in pop? Not a damn thing, she never
intended to as it was and is always about her and her oversized, undeserved
ego. Simply put she bought her own press.

Fashion trends? Yeah if you are a gay male (no offense) or middle aged bridge
    and tunnel cougar.

Profound effect on women? I never thought you were given to hyperbole but
    here we are.

She tied Elvis. B F D, he sucked as much as she does.

I don't hate Madonna, I just think ALL of her music is crap and stand by my
assertion that she is a self absorbed, pretentious, talentless gas bag who
would be nowhere were it not for her decision to market herself as a "pop tart"

I'm beginning to think you like obscurity for it's own sake.

Tons. Amy Grant, Parliament, Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, Anita Baker,
Toni Braxton, Queen Latifah, Phoenix, Maroon 5, Dave Matthews Band, The
Greatful Dead, Phish,Eva Cassidy, Trace Adkins, Lyle Lovett, and on and on and on...

Yes I do like some things that are obscure, but no one can deny their talent.

What I don't like is trash masquerading as talent aka Madonna.

Michael Jacksons career isn't negligible, but Madonnas is?

I never conferred any special merit to Michael Jackson's career, you
    read that all by yourself.

But if you are comparing the two based on talent, Madonna loses all day, every day.

Your deep affinity for her has blinded you to her total lack of talent, voice, or stage
presence (which is why she distracts with dozens of dancers and other crap)

Your deep hatred for her has blinded you to her total contribution to pop culture, fashion,
feminine empowerment, drive for equality, and stage presence (Which is why she holds
the title for highest grossing tour of all time for female artists. 2x actually, she broke her
    own record lol).

Since you are apparently reading this from the short bus I am going to say it
    one more time:

I do not hate Madonna the person. It is impossible for me to hate someone I
do not know. Simple concept unless of course one is simple.

Her contribution to pop culture is zero. Her influence on fashion is less than
that. She has empowered NO ONE and in all honesty I doubt she cares
about anyones equality (except her trophy babies)

You can quote her concert stats until your last breath and that will not
change the fact that she, the "artist" and I use that term loosely sucks.
But hey, she can take comfort in having you as a cheerleader.

    I'm done here.

Because if I have to really explain how much she has contributed to the previously mentioned aspects of society, it would only prove how much of a close minded, opinionated, cave dweller you really are.

So whatever, make your funny little quips about the short bus and all that- I don't care.

Sorry, in the 80's, she WAS pop culture.

Her influence on fashion is less than

In a similar vein, how old are you, because you obviously weren't there.

I'll have to disagree with you here as well. I've always thought she was a good role model in the sense that she knew how to play the game, and walk away richer. That IS empowering in a materialistic society.

Translation: Aside from my tired stats and unqualified assertions, I got nothing.

Opinionated? Why thank you. To be opinionated requires the mental acumen to think
critically and for oneself. Glad you noticed.

Cave dweller aka an actual REAL man. Again, thank you.

    Thank you for playing.

Whether or not you or I like what an artist does, success equals talent.
I beg to differ. Tiny Tim, Bell Biv DeVoe, Bobby Brown, Billy Ray Cyrus, Ricky
Martin and a long list of others were successful. Talented, not so much.

AG, we're not talking about levels of talent.
If they have any amount of talent, they are talented.

You are letting your feelings about the artist or their art cloud your logic.
Most of the musicians you post about in the SOTD thread do nothing for me. I don't like their music. That doesn't mean they aren't talented.

all nuclear. I may be opinionated but the close minded label rest squarely on you.

@LSG: I do not expect anyone to like what I like. My point is that Madonna is
completely devoid of talent. She is the Howard Stern of music. Her appeal is shock
    and nothing more.

As to her altruistic nature, it's total BS in my opinion. Trophy babies do not a
saint make. The rest is just noise.

    How so?

Me being close minded to you thinking Madonna is a hag?

Or me being close minded to you thinking Madonna has no talent?

If anything, it is you who is being close minded.

Thinking that just because you can not appreciate something as subjective as someone's music, they must be labeled worthless.

It is you, who has questioned my masculinity, it is you who has laughed at my short bus status, it is you who decided to make the jump and pursue a topic I suggested not to.

I explained my side, but you decided it was not valid.

I can accept that you sincerely dislike her persona and music.

But don't discredit where credit is obviously due.

    That shows close mindedness.

In the end, who decides who's worth?

    PS-

I find it hilarious you think I'm going nuclear.

I'm Prada. I eat flames for breakfast lunch and dinner.

I can take the heat. I'm a senior citizen here in in OT , and on more than one occasion I've had my feet held to the fire.

    Taking it with stride.

Close minded in that you feel you must vehemently defend this over produced,
egotistical, wanna be diva to the point where you cannot tolerate dissent.
At the first word disparaging Madonna you were as reliable as Pavlov's dog.
I absolutely knew you would take the bait. Just had to ring the bell.

As to your being a senior citizen in OT, child, by comparison I am friggin Methusala.

Taking it in stride? Oh I think not. remember a few posts ago you were "done" yet
