I often thought that a high level employees have certain clause that forbid them to jump ship to a competitor to ensure trade secret cannot be use to compete against the original company.

I know in retail such as drug store. A pharmacist owner who is a franchisee of a big name drug store are not allow to open a business within certain distance and within 5 years of resigning.

That's normal in a lot of businesses. In my word were I use a lot of contract employees.. a few companies have clauses to keep me from soliciting those contract employees for employment with my company.

Some state I can't recruit them for 6 months and some for a year after they work for me.
