Actually it does matter. If you do not pay attention, atleast sometimes to your devices memory, and it drops to below 10MB, it can cause you to lose logs, messages, phone calls, apps, etc. So yes, it is important. Some people are more worried than others, but the reason is valid. BTW, I have 33.5MB free file space.

And I agree. But most of the problems arise from Beta OS's.

How do I check the file free? Silly question, mine says 7354104 bytes free. Quite confused.

    Thanks!

Options/Status/File Free. If you show 7 354 104 bytes free, that's well under the 10 000 000 bytes safe minimum. You need to do a battery pull to free as much memory as possible, then perform the Stoner Procedure:
    http://forums.crackberry.com/f3/how-...-memory-34633/

You will soon start to lose your old appointments, call logs, and txt messages if you don't recover some memory.

Jeff, thanks. Went to the link you provided, and executed all 'basic' steps, as well as some advanced.

Regarding the advanced steps - I deleted the 3 themes that Stoner said were not neccessary on device. After doing so, my 2 3rd party themes were in apps, but no longer in Theme section to activate. Are any of these 3 removed themes (I safely put in a 'removed files' folder - YEAH!) necessary in order for 3rd pty's to show up?

After this question, I won't post any other questions since I don't think this is the forum for it.

Again, thanks in advance guys! LOVE it here! I am thinking about changing fields and going into Tech because of this place!

Very possibly yes. I'm not a themes expert, and you don't say what 3rd party themes you are using anyway, but I've read that some themes indeed build on the standard themes. If the standard themes are not present, then themes based on them will not work properly. The one theme that appears to be absolutely essential is BBDimension Zen. I have removed all but it, and have not had problems. But I am not using 3rd party themes.

Jeff - I think this is definitely the problem, thanks again for the help. I am going to put those files back into my folder, and then add to my device.

    Have a great weekend!

From the home screen, Options / Status / File Free:

The number will look something like 35000000 bytes. Divide by 1 000 000 to convert to MB. So for this hypothetical case, your free memory would be a very healthy 35 MB.

Looks like a typo. But whichever digit you mistyped, you still got plenty of memory.

I started out with 25 before following Stoner's guide, and now I'm up to 28.

I have a Curve 8300 and am running 4.5 with the following apps:

    Aces Solitaire
    BB 4.5.0 Core Apps
    BB 4.5.0 System Software
    BB Messenger
    BrickBreaker
    Browser
    Email Setup App
    Facebook
    Flickr
    JiveTalk
    MemoPad
    OperaMini
    Phone
    Tasks

How come so many people have so much more available memory?? Is it because I'm running 4.5? Or is it the phone?

OS4.5 may have a larger memory footprint, but mostly it's your phone. 28MB free is very good for a 64MB device. The people you see reporting 45-55MB free have 96MB 8330's. They've got 32MB more to start with.

That's awfully close to the lower limit. If you haven't done Stoner's procedure, you can recover a lot of memory by performing it. You can easily find it by searching for "how to increase file free memory."

I have. Im due a pull one reason now is Im letting Viigo run in the background for speed to keep up with the Olympics. I also need to get rid of either pocket express or beyond 411 or both because Im also trying out Live search. There all similar but I like little differences in each...Indecision may or may not be the death of me.

That's quite low. Anything under 12 000 000 bytes and you run the risk of losing your call log, text messages, and old calendar entries. You should perform Reed McLay's CrackBerry Memory Optimization Procedure that's linked in my sig to recover some memory.
