Okay this may sound like a dumb question.

When I make a phone call on my cell, does it cost the company any money? Or is what I am paying per month 100% profit.

I have always wondered about this

Customer service reps, techinitions, custodial staff, etc wages. Building, electric, heating/cooling, water expenses. And probably other expenses. So the call itself probably doesn't cost anything but everything that has to do with providing the ability for you to make the call costs them.

Yes, Stoneryno is right about that but there is a huge amount of profit made because all their equipment is certainly paid off very quickly so almost all of the money is profit for them.

a good article to read The Ultimate 700MHz Auction Guide: What It Is, Who'll Win and Why You Should Care

by the way verizon won the auction with a bid of $4.74 billion, so they need to recoup that money somehow
