ewwww y i don't eat hot dogs and bologna :(
Hot dogs and bologna give you gout? Never heard that...
cuz my husband told me once that they put chicken feet in the grinder too, and it must have struck a nerve cuz just the smell makes me sick :D
Gout is known as the rich mans disease. Its from drinking alcohol all the time and certain foods. Go to the doctor before you lose a foot.

Don't stop drinking, just amputate.
(Sorry, I just like being an *** sometimes).
You do know this is a bb forum. Not your local clinics web page. Right?

...and you do know this is the Off Topic section where people are allowed
to discuss non BlackBerry stuff without having to endure snarky comments. Right?
And do YOU know that today my birthday is today? And that I turn this many?
I dropped my phone holding up my fingers. I didn't have enough...
Good luck with the gout everyone!

Sorry to hear that man. I got the gout right after the 1st of the year, when I was 23, and thought the same thing that only old people got it (guess not). I got it in my left big toe in the joint where it connects to foot. I couldn't walk for like 4 days, really sucked. After trying to wait it out I ended up going to the doctors to see what the deal was and she told me it was the gout. After doing some research online I guess it can be from your diet (but it seems like things any normal person would eat, so not sure) but I guess it can also be hereditary. My dad had it when he was 35, so I guess it was passed along to me, great.
The doc gave me an anti-inflammatory to take until the pain and swelling was gone, about 3 weeks. Then just take it whenever it comes back. There was also another prescription she said I could get if that didn't work and it's something that is taken everyday. Although my joint got better, it has never felt the same since then. I can walk, workout and run fine, but after a long run I do notice it getting somewhat sore. It seems like I can't bend my left toe back as much as I could before, not a huge difference though.
The doc said it's from crystals building up in the joint. She said if it occurs again to drink plenty of water (dehydration can help the build up I guess) and soak it in hot water, as well as start taking the medicine again. I guess it's something that you have forever once you've had it, but usually will lay dormant.
I don't feel like my diet is that much different than most people's and I don't eat that much red meat or anything either, so I'm thinking heredity has something to do with it. Anywho, sorry to hear it. Hope it gets better soon and you don't have many flareups. Good luck.
I am so glad I read the responses here before firing off a response.
At first, I was all excited to explain about spacers and sealants, etc for tile grout because I layed slate tile in front of the fireplace a few years back all on my own! Obviously, I misread
Then I confused 'Gout' with the some condition which is a rash caused by bewb sweat. I dont know.
I was wrong all around, and now I am learned up.
Sorry and good luck with that
Isn't it alcohol, AND seafood?
A family friend of mine had that... It sounded gross.
When he started talking about it, I promptly left the room. :D
Bewb sweat rash? There is SO much I just don't know about women.
My dad is a VP for a global company and has Gout, it's from wining and dining all those years. Seafood plays a part in it also...
Torpedo Friction
Men get it too.
Not me... Shut up! I don't have boobs!
My dad has gout right now too, of course he's got, or has had EVERYTHING! I recently went to a new doctor for my migraines and he took a family history, and I said this one has that, etc, and then I got to my dad, and I said "well, basically, he's got, everything!" Diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, cancer, shingles, gout, you name it, he has got it, or has had it! He's a model patient too, takes care of his conditions well. :) For what he's got, he's actually pretty "healthy" ;)
