The new Final Destination 5 is coming out soon. This morning heard a radio show discussing cheating death. It was quite entertaining.

Myself, I don't think it was cheating death, rather being extremely lucky. I was 15, riding a bicycle. A cargo van came out backwards from behind the gates. It was moving so fast that I didn't even get a chance to swerve. It hit me square into the side, sending me flying into some landscaping rock garden, while my bicycle ended up wrapped around the back wheel. I consider myself extremely lucky (and aerodynamic too).

So I wanted to ask the CB community, has anyone here cheated death?

I almost tipped my parents minivan taking a 25mph turn at 65. Other than that, not really.

Well, when I hit the deer while I was on a motorcycle, had the fracture been a couple inches farther to the left and a hair farther back, it could have easily been my spine rather than my collarbone that took the big hit and broke. I'm rather glad it wasn't. I don't honestly I can count this one though since I wasn't critically hurt or anything, just a broken bone.

Once in a card game...had 2 aces up my sleeve and he never even figured it out.

Ok, seriously though, was proceeding with caution through a major intersection when it was storming and the lights were out...it was clearly my turn to proceed through the "4 way stop" due to the lights being out. Some dumb woman came flying out of nowhere at 65 and t-boned my Jeep. She almost died, but I walked away with just a sore ankle and a mild headache.

One time when I was about 9, (this is so stupid I'm embarrassed to admit it) my friends and I were playing cops and robbers in the neighborhood. We all had guns with the orange caps on the barrels (so clearly not real). I was hiding behind a tree and heard a car coming so I jumped out and pointed my fake revolver....at a cop car. Needless to say he stopped and walked me to my front door where I got quite the dressing down from him and my parents. I don't think that one was cheating death so much as death was being forgiving since I was just so stupid.

When I was about 14, I was on a boat with my dad and a local senator, his friend. The Senator's now in jail, BTW, but THAT is a WHOLE other story. Anyways, the guy liked to drive REAL fast, but the inlet where we were was WAY too choppy and my dad kept telling him to slow down, but he wouldn't listen. We bump over a wave pop up in the air and I'm starting to fly out of the boat, in fact I'm almost fully in the water, the only thing that saved me was my dad, reaching and grabbing me and hauling me back in the boat. I saw my life flash before me THAT day!

7 years ago, I was driving my car through an intersection, had the green light and out of nowhere, a semi came and t-boned me on the driver side at 45 mph. I was left with a broken back, both legs were broken, one ankle shattered, left arm, collar bone and four ribs were also broken. The truck driver was drunk at the time and he worked for the Yellow trucking company. Needless to say, a massive lawsuit ensued. I spent 7 months in the hospital.

What makes it even worse, one month after being released, I was t-boned (passenger side) again by a teenager who was texting his girlfriend and ran a stop sign. That incident refractured almost all the previous injuries. I had to spend another 4 months in the hospital.

Ah, suppressed childhood memory just popped back.

6-7 years old, on a playground at my aunt's, going down a metal slide. Remember, this is Russia in the 80s. Child safety is non-existent. A nail or a piece of metal, that was sticking out from the side, tore into my right forearm and cut the artery near the wrist. I remember blood squirting out, my mom pinching my arm and wound really tight, putting me in the car, my aunt driving us somewhere, and nothing after that. I have pictures from next day with my wrist bandaged, playing on the same playground

I still have the scar, but with age it became semi-round and now looks like a bullet wound

Speaking of childhood, I have no idea how I am still alive: almost drowning in the fountain at 5; falling off a 3 story tall tree, but catching the last branch before hitting the ground; sneaking off to the lake alone at 7, before I knew how to swim (I got whipped for this one); walking on top of the balcony railing of our apartment on the 21st floor, yes that's TWENTY FIRST floor; flying off a small cliff in the Caucasus Mountains while skiing, nearly breaking my neck, but still walking away from it at 8. I didn't have much fear as a child.

My guardian angel must have been exhausted and threw a big "Oh My God, I can't believe this is over" party once I grew up.

    Yes! I have!!

Was heading down 95s to good ole Georgia and I was in the passenger seat of my car with my fiancee driving. We were behind a regular pick up truck and next to him was a regular car that was trying to go the same pace as the truck... we didnt know it but in front of the regular car was an 18 wheeler carrying wooden pallets. Well, a piece of the pallet flew off the side and flew over the truck in front of us and kept spinning and flew right over the passenger side mirror next to my window... literally 3 seconds before that I had put my arm back in the car and rolled up the window. It was back to back so fast I almost had a heart attack. Maybe not death but I wouldve lost my arm for sure that day if it were out the window.

Another time a few weeks ago. I was going through an intersection(after the light had been green for a good bit) and the guy driving on the cross street of the intersection came flying thru the light and slammed on his brakes at the last minute and I slammed on mine and luckily he swerved some and just hit my back end and spun me around... texting and driving. He blew right through the red light.

What a fantastic topic Pix, and some great() stories. Sheesh, where to begin? Oh, I know.....the beginning

#1. Born with the umbilical cord wrapped around my neck 7 times. It was obvious from the start I was blessed, and determined to use all 9 lives.

#2. Flash forward 16 years. The couple close encounters with venomous snakes between I can't count. They never tried to strike, thank G_d.
So anywho, I was driving one night, with two good friends in the car. It was raining, and I was still a rookie driver. Took a corner at the posted speed, which was far too fast for the conditions. Opposite embankment, and of course started to spin. I must have blacked out for a few seconds, cause the next thing I knew I was staring at pavement flying by right in front of me. I threw my arm out to protect my face. The centrifugal force must have kept me and my friends in check. The car finally came back down on all 4, and we sat there for a minute stunned and amazed. Came out with barely a scratch on my elbow. One friend with a black eye.

#3. Couple years later, I'm sitting at a red light. Dawn breaking on the day, lots of traffic in front of me, as I was at a 12 lane intersection. To my left was an open lane, and I look behind me to see a car approaching quickly. Look at the light, and it's still red. Another look behind, and I realize it's not stopping. I pressed hard on my brake, not wanting to be pushed into the flow of traffic, as the sound of crushing metal and glass hits my ears. As a WTF goes through my mind, I see the car backing up and pulling around me. I tried to give chase, but my poor Triumph was in no shape. I knew there was something seriously wrong, when I had to stretch to reach the pedals and shifter. The engine was screaming, as I climbed to 30mph, watching the fleeing vehicle fade in front of me. I pulled into a parking lot, got out, and saw the back completely crushed in. The rear tires were pushed forward, and gas was leaking everywhere. The tank was crushed, and by the grace of G_d alone I had filled the night before, or it surely would have blown up. That was the beginning of the road to my bionic neck.

#4. Few years pass, and I'm driving a winding 2 lane road. The car in front is going uber slow. I finally seize a chance to pass, and as I punch it and start around, I see he's right on someone's booty, and moves to pass as well. I take evasive action, going off road to the right, and onto freshly poured asphalt. My brakes are useless, as I glide into, down, and back up a drainage ditch like Dukes of Hazard. As I "float" down, I hear a nasty noise. The car lands, and I look right to see a pole coming through the passenger floorboard, and embedded in the seat. Come to find out the owner of the residence had grown tired of replacing the mailbox, and decided to cement in a heavy steel pipe.

#5. I was driving back from south FL on night, and fell asleep at the wheel. Opened my eyes to a tractor trailer in front of me, and managed to veer back onto the road just in time. I'm pretty sure I didn't blink again the rest of the drive home.

#6. Due to #3 I ended up in traction, and on some major pain killers. After many months of this, my wife at the time found me in the bathroom on night, in the fetal position. After two days in ICU they finally scoped me to discover a 6" ulcer in my colon. My white blood cell count was through the roof, and the ulcer so bad it nearly perforated the wall in many places. The doc said he'd never seen one so severe, and I was lucky to be alive. I though "luck my ".

#7-9 are more figurative, and nothing I want to discuss at this point anyway.

That's all 9 I get, and I've been assured the next time will be conclusive, but I'm promised I'll go with a on my face, so I'm with it.

PS - I picture skully driving a Sherman tank, lowered with hydraulics, and a pom-pom fringe hanging along the back. I bet that sucker is bad to the bone!

I went to the beach with friends and cousins, so after a party night it was late morning and everybody was wakeup except me, I heard my cousin that he said I was still sleep and he was going to check if I was alright so I turn my eyes white like I was death, he first touch me and see if I was breathing but I wasn't, then he start shouting my personal trainer name and last he punch my chest a couple times, I couldn't hold it and start laughing and in that moment my trainer came in and said what happen? I couldn't talk and my cousin was so pissed of, lmfao.

Well that was a fake death but I was shoot when I was 7 and spend a month or so in ICU, my lung was perforated and got a SCI and some years later I was in a surgery and died and they get me back with shocks yooohoooo, that with count as 2 times I skip death, which would be the third? Lol

I am a tracuer. amateur but a tracuer nonetheless. So one day while practicing front flips off of a slide, I decided to try once with a camera in my hand. bad idea.
head hits ground and my neck was in pain for a few weeks. my arm was messed up for a few months. However, other than that, i havent had any near death events that are noteworthy.

I've cheated death so to speak a couple of times. Here are some pictures of one that was just too close of a call:

In those two pictures, I'm actually STILL trapped under the car. My friend took the picture from his camera phone...

The craziest part: I had bought that car just 3 weeks prior to the accident. And I was so close to buying a convertible...

    Here's what happened:

I was making a turn, hydroplaned, and thus fishtailed. By the time I regained traction, my car swerved and hit the curb, which caused my car to pop a wheelie. Because my car was RWD, I continued to wheelie and the front tires actually rode along that marquee/edifice in the picture, which caused me to barrel-roll in mid air and lay flat upside down like a pancake.

I was trapped for nearly an hour since my foot was trapped. The clutch pedal and kick panel had pinched my left foot, and had the pedal or the kick panel pushed in just a centimeter more, my foot would have been severed at the ankle. It took 45 minutes for the FD to cut me loose; it took them 15 mins to just figure out how to get me free.

Crazy part was that both of my friends immediately exited the car upon impact with no damage whatsoever. After I came free, everyone (paramedics, emt, FD, PD, etc) had their jaws dropped. I was a "roll-over victim" yet didn't have any bruises, scrapes, cuts; wasn't bleeding at all. Just a month prior to my roll-over, a kid was trapped under his car and burned alive due to the gasoline/oil igniting... The EMTs advised me to hit the casinos since it was my "lucky night"...

    Pictures of the aftermath:

Side impact from hitting the edifice/marquee thing.

Here you can see where the kick panel got smashed in. My foot was trapped BEHIND that wreckage...

Did more than a few foolish things when I was a kid/teen being careless, filmed fireworks (I loved it, when I got my first WM5 phone) and this member of a gang told me to stop (like wtf is his problem) filming him after I pointed towards the sky, he threatened to "bang" me. Second time, years before that, not wearing my seat belt on the school bus and being tossed around, I smartened up when I saw a wreckage on the news. Years after that and after the fireworks, flipped my scooter multiple times going both up and down hills, damn holes/cracks in the sidewalks, and wasn't wearing a helmet, I didn't get hurt, just bruised, was shaken up. While riding a Zooma (google markysparkytoys red zooma to see it), my brother purposely stopped his bike in front of me, sending me flying. I hit my head on the curve of the road and since I was living with a stupid family member, he never took me to the hospital to check for brain damage or anything, didn't check for fractures either. Didn't have a helmet either, cause they said I didn't need it. ****ers. Tipped my trike twice into traffic, almost three times, wasn't aware of the angle, at the time, on the way to a bike shop. The driver stopped luckily. Had to make an emergency collision into a round garbage can due to not being able to stop my trike going down a hill on a rainy day, mostly cause someone oiled my brakes. I didn't want to hit the stopped car either, as it would have ejected me over the hood. Four-six months ago, ran into a parked honda, no scratches or ejection, after falling into microsleep due to sleeplessness the nght before. The fork got pushed backwards, bike is still driveable to this day. End of august: Riding home, my right fender fell off and I ran over it. I stopped the bike, then got off and crossed the street to retrieve it. Upon crossing to get back to the bike, I cross the street and this man operating a large van was on his cellphone and nearly missed me by 3 ft, only noticing me after I yelled loudly. I didn't want the fender to cause somebody a flat, cause it was razor sharp on the ends of it. I have since put foam fenders over the wheels, attached to the basket, they won't rust or come off easily. Multiple times before and after, I was nearly hit/almost brushed by ignorant taxi drivers, even telling me to get the FUICK off the road (maybe they should instead) after such a close call. I was also hit by a car in 2007 and I had the right of way, I remained alert the whole time from impact to landing, to the paramedics checking me to the time in hospital to the time going home. No head injuries, but I did hit the ground hard.

... Well, that's it. I cheated many times. I try not to be foolish or stupid. lol

PS. Someone must be looking after me or something, even though I consider myself to be atheist even though I was baptized catholic. (If I see the big man in robes in front of me for real and he's transparent, then I'll believe. The force must be with us!
