My mom is suffering from a (non contagious) form of tuberculosis. As part of the treatment, she. Has to take a pill call Rifampicin, which is making her feel very nauseated, and is changing the colour of bodily fluids (including sweat and tears) to a reddish orange colour.
Does anybody know if the nausea will settle down after a while?
She has to take the medicine for 5 months or so.

I am a pharmacist. I can tell you that Rifampin is usually taken on an empty stomach (1 hour before, or 2 hours after a meal, once daily) with a full glass of water. This is done to ensure that the drug is absorbed properly. The side-effects that you are listing are very common with this drug, some may go away eventually, but some may not. If the nausea continues, I would take the drug with a small amount of food, even though this is generally not advised. The nausea could also be minimized by taking 1/2 the drug dosage TWICE daily instead of the larger amount all in one dose. Make sure each dose is taken with a full glass of water. As I mentioned, the nausea may also be a transient side-effect in that it may go away after a week or so of use. Hope this helps.
