I used to hang out in chat rooms, like 12 years ago, it used to be bad to put too much info out there. I just wondered if anyone out there has had trouble after putting personal info(such as city, state) online?
I have had issues with people I met online through a forum go psycho. I THOUGHT they were my friend, so they had all contact info. Apparently had no life outside of the forum, and called employers and ex-husbands of my REAL LIFE friends. Not good.
You never really know who is behind the keyboard.

I have a blog where I don't use my last name, city, province, employer, basically ANY personal info. My old boss "found" my blog one day and tried to make my life a living ****, especially at my new job. It didn't work though. That's as close as I've come to a stalker though!
I have an ex gf who hunts me down and really gets in my way about once every 6 months. You would think she would be over it by now.
I just take it and I don't respond to her at all. I used to email her and Facebook her back telling her to die in a fire, etc...but that just gave her the attention that she wanted (she'll take any of it, even if it is negative).
Now she hears nothing from me. So ultimately, one day she is going to have to wonder if she is even getting her messages through.
Its funny, when we were going out, I saw her psychopathic tendencies...but I had no idea.
For personal reasons I have dis-owned my mother and brother many years ago, however whilst my brother can respect my wishes and leave my Family alone (and by "family", I mean the wife's side of the Family), my mother simply will not stop abusing and otherwise harrasing everyone...
In the end, I bought a couple of domains for e-mail use and whilst it's possible that she may work out what they are one day (they're pretty obvious), I also have a back-up plan - anti-spam software at a server level that I can personally tailor to meet my needs (she's not very techie, so she shouldn't get around them).
I also enforce ridiciously strict IT policies regarding personal information on the Internet, and frequently use Google and other tools to ensure that our personal information is not floating around in the Blue Nowhere...

Happy Easter All, I have never had a stalker problem before, thankfully. In today's world of cyber threats our best defense is keeping your personal life just that..."Personal". It is certainly sad how this beautiful world of ours has presented so many tenacious hurdles in our lifes that we must negotiate daily. The vast majority of people that frequent forums are upstanding, honest people. It is only the "ONE" that sours the pie that can ruin it for all. Sometimes, it is just as easy to throw out the pie!
Once, was pretty low level and died off fairly quick.
I'm pretty relaxed about first name and location, rarely give out a last name or where I work. I've met a bunch of people from online gaming and chatting in RL but always meet people in a neutral place until I get to know the real them pretty well.
No thank god, my only online problem is with the occasional perv, but other than that I don't give out personal information unless I met the person offline and their friends and maybe the phone number exchange is ok lol
Had a pseudo-stalker that wouldn't stop nosing in on my Yahoo Chat. I finally just quit using it and uninstalled it. I am even thinking of deleting my yahoo email. Sickos everywhere. Disgusting.
