My guess is in Germany they consider 17 is an adult. If so, then the police couldn't do anything. Cutting his berries off though is a BIT extreme. This just might make the girl totally go buck wild now that her father might go to jail for a big chunk of time. If she was 3 years younger, this probably would not have taken place.

I am reminiscing about Russia a lot today. I don't know about now, but when I was a teen, my friends could drink and smoke openly. AND NOBODY GAVE A DAMN. They could go into the store and buy smokes and alcohol and no one would ask a question, BUT you couldn't legally marry till you are 18, although you could still get married with parents' consent at 16. Only your parents were responsible for your health and safety, and sometimes they would beat you in public too. And again, nobody gave a damn. You guys have it easy in the US, with your child protection services, and illegal drinking and smoking age laws.

I think there were other ways that this could've been handled rather than cutting off ol' boy's nads. If the father went to the police, and they said there's nothing they can do for him, then it's obviously not illegal for a 57 year old man to date a 17 year old girl. It's F'ed up for sure, but not illegal. There are better ways to handle it...
