Lord I hope this isn't retroactive. If it is I will need to put up a
donation button just for lawyers fees

Seriously though, I can't even begin to imagine how this would
    be remotely workable.

What kind of a person would come up with a bill like that?
One who's 13 year old daughter killed herself because of the harsh and horrible things a fully grown woman said to her on the internet.

Idk....I mean, who kills themselves over internet flaming? Obviously the girl had some issues. Someone like that would probably end up killing themselves regardless if it was because of something on the internet, or in real life. I find it extremely tragic that a child would take her own life and my heart goes out to her parents, but I think Congress is slightly overreacting. Just another step closer to having complete control over society IMO.

Even though it's in Off Topic, there is no need to be rude or
    insulting. Thread cleaned up.

I agree with the overreacting part. The complete control part, not so much.

Congress has been putting of these kneejerk pieces of legislation forever for
any type of tragedy. Annoys me to no end.

Jail time for online insults? That's stupid... If you can't handle the internet, get off... And if you go and hurt yourself over what someone said to you online, you're probably not stable to begin with

Naw..."cruelty" can't be regulated. While I agree that cyber stalking/intimidation needs to be addressed, up to and including some type of legislation, it's not going to stop folks from saying harsh and horrible things to people....and that's not what we're talking about here.

People are mean. Teenage girls, and their grown-up moms can take it to a whole 'nother level, no question. But we have to work with young people (especially girls) to help them become strong and resilient, inspite of folks becoming more evil, with each generation.
