    Hello all,

Sorry in advance if I haven't posted this in the right section.

Over the summer I've been thinking about what I'd like to do as an occupation. Knowing my passion for smartphones and new gadgets, I began buying broken phones and fixing them. I have another job as my main income but this hobby of fixing phones was 1) fun/exciting and I learned a lot about the design of different smartphones and how the phones come together 2)extra income and the flexibility to switch phones more often.

Now my question is, what kind of school or experience is needed to get a job in the industry whether it's at blackberry or apple or carier related(ex:telus). I'm trying to get an idea before going back to school so I can choose whether I stay in university or go somewhere else.

I would love to test new devices, or do software or design of new devices or just simply anything.

Thank you all for taking the time to respond to my very mixed and confusing thoughts.

I think to get a job at BlackBerry at their current state you need to be at least a university graduate with no less than 10 years of experience and they'll drown you in death tests...

You have better chances with a carrier, I'm not sure what degree they look for when hiring repair guys.. but what counts in this day and age is experience not degrees. If you now how to fix phones then go ahead and apply..

If you find the section/ page for the job application.. there's usually a job requirements list.. and you can always email the specific companies with your questions, and mention how much you're interested in joining the team.

BlackBerry always hires massively with co-op students..especially from Waterloo..

It is very hard to find recent graduate jobs at BlackBerry but that's the reality.

    It's either:

    1. Co-op positions

    Or

    2. Professional people with a degree and +10 years experience.

Sadly there is no middle ground per say.

Would you say like a program would have to be like computer science?

I think they would look for either computer science or electronic engineering graduates

Or telecommunications technology engineering , depending on the position..

Business students for marketing, arts and applied science for product design and UI concepts..

The normal accountants/ law guys are the backbone of any company.. it depends on what job you want and looking for their requirements

To work in a carrier store...

You need to know nothing about smart phones really...

Gift of the gab and being able to use Google search adequately will suffice...

To me you sound over qualified (practically speaking)

The people who sell the ph's know nothing more than what they can read on gsmarena ^^

    Thanks for replying!

I also feel I'm pretty qualified to work there but I have yet to receive a response from them. I applied to telus+koodo over 17 times!

Whenever I go to telus(my carrier) I know a lot more than the workers there and it frustrates me to know they keep rejecting me.

Haha! I would say good things about but I'm a very realistic person and I know it's not for everyone. I can see the benefits other phones have for other people. For example I'd suggest an iphone for an elderly person or a blackberry for someone running a business etc etc.
