I don't use calendar. So I would backup with DM my device data, right? Then do a selective restore of: Memos, tasks, contacts, WLAN profiles (I have over 20 of them for all over my district)...but how do I get BBM contacts back???
I can see what you mean about downloading the apps again OTA. I could do it. WHat about my themes? (I have 10 I absolutely have to put back...maybe up to 20 I want) They are all custom issues. I have the files. How should I do those? Through DM?
You can install the themes back using apploader instead of DM.
As far as the BBM contacts I believe you can also select that option in DM as you do your selective restore. You should also back those up on your the MicroSD card that way you can just restore them from there.jaydee5799 likes this.03-07-11 09:21 AMLike 1 - OK so let me get this straight, when I get my new device I should:
- See which OS is on it. If it's OS6...leave it? And not shrink or remove anything?
- Then use DM for my device data restore.
- Then use what for my apps restore? ALL my apps
Why when I did a DM backup, none of the apps installed by BBSAK were restored??
I wiped my device this am, then I did a total restore of device data and an app restore by DM, disconnected from the internet and added back whatever it saved. But it didn't save everything. I had to use BBSAK to install maybe 12 more apps that didn't get backed up.
How do I avoid that and have just two files? One of device data and one of apps?03-07-11 09:48 AMLike 0 - OK so let me get this straight, when I get my new device I should:

I would expect your new phone to have 431 preloaded, but there may still be some in their inventory with the last OS5 build. If you get one of those, I'd wipe and load 431. Get a fresh copy direct from VZW and load all of it. No shrink -- in fact, I wouldn't even open up any of the shrink tools after installing the new copy of 431. Remember that you can delete the languages and such from the phone after you select ENGLISH on startup. I would use APPLOADER to load just the OS, then I'd reload my apps OTA. You can add back your themes later with APPLOADER.
If I correctly recall, you use Google or Yahoo or something to keep your contacts and memos, right? If so, I would not even restore your PIM data from your backup, but sync directly to the PIM vendor to restore your data. If you keep it locally on your PC, sync it with your new phone and let it make a new PIM database.

I do have Google mail but do not want to let it sync my contacts. I got duplicates when I did that once. Both my home and work email is on Google and I don't want all my work emails being synced to my phone... So i will do a very selective restore...but please...which choice is for BBM contacts?
And one more thing, not to sound ignorant but how would I load themes with Apploader again? I have the alx and cod files...I always used DM. If I open apploader...how does it know where the themes are??? How do I give it the path?
I have to be late after work tomorrow, too so it seems like it's gonna be a long night! Guns and tonics on the house!!!03-07-11 10:47 AMLike 0 -

03-07-11 01:46 PMLike 0 - +1 on letting BBM do it. Make your backup before you load your new phone. From your BBM contact list, hit OPTIONS. Scroll down to BACKUP MANAGEMENT. and hit BACKUP. I do both local AND remote backups. Works for me every time. If you're also going to reformat your SD card with your new phone (highly recommended), I'd at least make the BBM do a remote backup. After you load up the new phone and register your email accounts, open BBM and hit OPTIONS/BACKUP MANAGEMENT/RESTORE.03-07-11 02:08 PMLike 0
- I agree with rr for the bbm contacts. Once you get them loaded back on via DM and you get everything else sorted out, take a few moments to set up remote back up for bbm with an email associated with your bb. This way if in the future you need to reload bbm contacts, you simply go into the bbm menu and prompt for a remote back up. depending on how many contacts you have, it could take about 10mins or so to restore it that way. I've had to use it once about a year ago and it worked wonderfully.

I appreciate your help, but unfortunately, this isn't my first rodeo!
lol
I DID use backup just as you suggested for BBM this morning and every time I tried a different email address FROM WHICH to load my contacts, it said there was no bbm account associated with this email. It did this for all 7 email addresses I have registered!!!!
That's why I am asking WHAT TO DO. I seemed to hit it lucky when, after doing just a selective restore, I said the **** with it and did a complete restore of my device data I had made this morning and then all my contacts reappeared.
I have made a backup copy on my card, which is great advice and I have re-registered my email addresses. So I appreciate that advice, too. I am just worried that I don't know which file to selectively restore from the .ipd for bbm contacts. Does anyone know?03-07-11 03:53 PMLike 0 - Hey guys and gals!!!
What themes do you use on a daily basis on your 9650?
I want to write about some other themes but am not sure which to purchase. What have you bought that you really like?
Some themers are not so accommodating when asking for a free theme. So I guess I will have to start purchasing. So give me some ideas on which ones to try. OTHER than Al3azim's because I have all of those, as you all do!!! LOL
Essex, Hamster and Pink, I'm really counting on you guys to help me out. Give me theme names to research...
Skyboxer, you use some too, right? I'd appreciate ideas from anyone who wants to share theme titles.
Thanks!03-07-11 05:34 PMLike 0 - Hey guys and gals!!!

First, I don't understand why these developers would not want to provide you with a copy in return for free publicity?
That makes no sense to me.
Having said that, I have Sheath by Pootermobile and it is very nice, and runs smooth. I think he has several that are good.
BB Gloss by BBT looks very nice though I have not purchased it yet - I'm very tempted though..
Another one that I think looks good and has cool functionality is Ciel by Raypho..
And I do have one from Tatooz- it was free though
Hope that helps!
Just thought of another one that has caught my eye - buufduece..Last edited by hamsterwheel; 03-07-11 at 06:02 PM.
03-07-11 05:42 PMLike 0 - I have this one ^ and like it,
however I prefer simple and plain more than this one is. I usually make one with a solid black background and a large colored clock. put a couple ocd slots for calendar and battery. This way I can use a wp of my choice easier. I'm different I guess because I don't like that row of icons at the bottom and don't like the pop up tray popping up either, just access everything from QL.(hey, a 2key press) I delete all from the top bar except my larger clock which I put a bit lower and left side. Use vorino battery icon for one ocd and cal app showing the date on the other ocd. No sig bars, nothing else on the top. I finish it with a nice weather display on the right using DeToday(has more color options)
So onscreen I can see my clock, battery meter and date icon. Anything else I want to see I just press menu key and it's all at the top. Pretty spartan and not for everybody or anybody maybe, but I love it. I'd post a quick pic but my wp's such that I might get a reprimand or worse.
I'll change the wp later and post up a screenie.
EDIT:
Green/blue are my 2 favs. The 2 icons on the left are permanent as well as the clock, as they are burned into the theme. The blue frame around the battery can be made to go away, I just forgot. Unfortunately the GPS icon upper right is non removable AFAIK. The weather on the right is DeToday's weather app. I like it better than the Beweather wallpaper as it has more font options including colors. It's also easier to move around. The center is a wp, otherwise it'd be solid black except for the sides. I removed my preferred wp to avoid controversy. I like black as this is a blackberry and the housing being black and all it just adds to the ambiance imho. Like I said it's not for everybody. The inner pages are lots of rich greens and blues with some sedona red thrown in for backgrounds. I'd post it and love to share but I haven't figured out how to do that. My bad. Maybe RR will give me some pointers on posting.Last edited by cbreze; 03-07-11 at 06:47 PM.

But I too do like them simple - that is why I like al3's - pretty clean and very smooth and functional. I don't need that many icons on the home screen either...
Can't wait to see your screenie...now you must show us the one you don't want to show us03-07-11 06:20 PMLike 0 - JD,
if your looking for some awesome themes, you need to check out themes by bbt. He is an awesome theme designer, and is by far my favorite theme developer. his themes are very clean, and hands down allow the greatest customization. (hidden docks, hotkeys galore, hidden today, hidden weather, many different color variations, and the ability to change color options within the theme!)
I currently have on my device from bbt metro, gloss, and slate. I would say my favorite is probable gloss or slate! they are awesome themes!03-07-11 06:30 PMLike 0 - JD,

I don't want any of these themes for myself...I just want to review them. Al3azim's themes are all I need. They do everything you mentioned above, too. They are the cleanest, most functional out there. Oh and they're free!
But thanks for the ideas. I will write again to him and see what he can do for me....03-07-11 06:40 PMLike 0 - Hey guys and gals!!!

Thanks!03-07-11 07:58 PMLike 0 - I love Chryom by Hedone Designs so much I have yet to even try an OS6 upgrade as Chryom doesn't support OS6. I did contact Hedone Designs this weekend to see if OS6 compatibility was in the pipeline for the Chryom theme and I was told it was likely.03-07-11 08:20 PMLike 0
- That Gloss one from BBT that everyone is using is pretty sweet but 5.99, the other is Pure y by Pure-lab, they don't have any themes for OS6 I don't think.
Does this help? Is this the kind of info you were looking for Jaydee?03-08-11 01:01 AMLike 0 - All's pretty quiet on the ramblin' forum this morning. I'm sure things will pickup when JayDee gets her new refurb delivered. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for an A+ device for you JayDee and can't wait to hear how it's doing.
