I'm honestly totally shocked. I thought McCain was going to win. I didn't vote for either so more power to him.

I agree with you!!!!
Estoy de acuerdo!!!!
Salam!!!!
Crucial, I know you wrote back to AG, but I didn't want you to think I didn't know where you were coming from. I was trying to tell you that while many probably voted for the reasons you stated, far more voted the issues. I have created a paper trail of where I stand on the issues, one that goes back to the begining of the campaign. But in addition, I worked the phones for the Democrats and actively participated in a campaign for the first time since my early twenties. I can honestly say that the majority of the people I talked with on the phone were very aware of the issues involved in this election and voted accordingly. Obama won by too large a margin for his victory to be attributed to uneducated voters voting for him simply because he is black. The African American community has been largely Democratic for many years and their support for him was a given -- no matter what his race (although I'm sure it helped), but many of us listened to what he said and agreed with him. That is why I voted for him, and the reason many more did as well.

Thank you Latina Berry! I know it doesn't matter at all, but my wife, Tanya, is Latina, too. :) I'll have to ask her to translate, lol.
As exelant did; I too helped the Obama campaign in VA. It was rewarding to be a part of a campaign that truly (from my own experiences, seen with my own eyes) transcended race, color, creed, national origin, age, gender, sexual orientation, ethnicity and handicap status.
To imply that the majority of African-Americans voted for Obama because he shares 50% of the ethnicity/race as African-Americans...is NAIEVE.
JMONEY; you can't make the racist/biggot-tinged comments you did towards me earlier...and pass it off as a joke or 'simply asking'; when CLEARLY the innuendos were CLEAR. Many people probably bypassed that; because the comment wasn't towards them...but I'll tell you something; there are MANY people on here and in the world who you'd probably see the same way then..simply because they aren't your complexion and have your features.
I cut you; you bleed red..you cut me; I bleed red.

Typicall attorney Spin........you still didnt answer the question i posted. Thats ok man you dont have to. Relish in your Victory and enjoy it while it last. It was a straight up Democratic Thrashing that took place. I am so embarressed about how bad it was...I think i will keep my head down for a few days.......
Obama please dont raise my Taxes and we will be cool man!
You see,
This is what pi*ses me off.. I am reading all of these threads for the past few days, I noticed it was the same 7-8 posters going back and forth, obviously some people voted different. That's cool, I respect everyone for their own personal views. It is what it is.. BUT THE MORE I READ ABOUT SOMEONE SAYING THAT ALL THESE PEOPLE VOTED FOR A MAN SIMPLY BECAUSE OF HIS RACE IS GETTING ON MY LAST EVER LOVING NERVE!!
I am an 32 year old, tax paying, African American democrat. I have voted in every election since Clinton's second term. Initially, I was actually for Hillary, it wasn't until, she and Obama's healthcare plans were side by side, that I selected him over her.
For years, we as black people have voted for OUR PARTY! Not because they were WHITE???????????? NOT BECAUSE WE LOVED EVERYTHING ABOUT THEM!!!
But because we (our party) felt that out of all the candidates, THAT person, whether it be Clinton, Kerry, Gore, were the best individual fit to run the country.
Now we have a black man who has not only one the democratic ticket, but the NATIONAL PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION and not by a slim margin?
BUT HE WHOOPED McCAIN'S A DOUBLE SS!!!
Simple as that! The AVERAGE voter is a WHITE MALE.. So that means that the AVERAGE DEMOCRATIC VOTER, went for Obama, and not AGAINST HIM BECAUSE HE WAS BLACK, but for their own party..... So did they vote for him because he was black?
I doubt it.
THIS MAN BROUGHT CHANGE, cant you see and respect that? HIS background and upbringing is a symbol of what alot of people in this country live about, know about, and ARE ABOUT!
McCain brings in a very pretty and charismatic woman to be his VP pick.///
NOW THAT??????????????
That was because she was a woman, and nothing else. He saw how popular Hillary was and figured America WAS READY FOR A WOMAN!!!
Governor Palin was very selfish in even ACCEPTING his offer for her to be the VP pick, and she knows it. She could have "revitalized" the Republican base in other ways than being his VP Pick.. Had he NOT SELECTED HER? We may not have been having these conversations since yesterday.
I didnt vote for Obama because he was black! If any other democrat made the ticket instead of him? In the end, unless that person had some incredibly horrible view on an issue I opposed? I would have voted for that WHITE MAN AS WELL, because I voted with my party.
Someone also wrote something about there being a reason why the democrats sat in office less than the Republicans have..
READ YOUR DAM HISTORY SIR!
The Democratic Party was a branch from the Democrat-Republican party.. WE needed CHANGE<<<<there's that word again, so we branched off and made our own!
President's Madison and Jefferson were in that party.
The Democratic Party has favored "liberal" positions
The Democratic base currently consists of a large number of well-educated and relatively affluent liberals as well as those in the socially more conservative working class.
The Democratic Party is currently the nation's largest party.
In 2004, roughly 72 million (42.6 percent) Americans were registered Democrats, compared to 55 million (32.5 percent) Republicans and 42 million (24.8 percent) independents.<<<<I wonder why the surge of Democratic registrations after 2004? Maybe something to do with the 2000 election????
YA THINK??????????
Why do you think the electoral votes became such a big issue in 2000? Because NEVER IN MY HISTORY HAS A PRESIDENT ELECT WON THE ELECTORALS WITHOUT THE POPULAR AND VICE VERSA!!!!
Historically, the party has favored farmers, laborers, labor unions, and religious and ethnic minorities; it has opposed unregulated business and finance, and favored progressive income taxes
What has our "limited amount of Dem Presidents" done when they were in office to make our party so NOT COOL?
Woodrow Wilson is the first Democratic President , he got us OUT OF WWI,
Roosevelt comes in and gets us out of the depression
JFK and HIS Brother couldnt even stay long enough to get what they wanted done.
Carter comes in and has to sway America away from "WATERGATE"
Clinton cheats on his wife.. A MAN IS A MAN!!
So we have NIXON?
REAGAN and the "Contra's"
BUSH 1? (dont get me started)
Bush 2( PUHLLEEESE DONT EEEVEN GO THERE)
AND THE REPUBLICAN PARTY WAS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE 2000 ELECTION!!! ENOUGH SAID!
So get off of your high horses and just let history play out.. We need a change from the last 8 years, the democrats are RUNNING WASHINGTON, THE SENATE.. poor ole Ted Stevens is trying to hold on.. (I wonder what he did? Lets not get into that)
And the new President Elect just SO HAPPENS TO BE BLACK..
Get over it and go kick rocks some dam where!
We as black people would have NEVER expected this to happen.. Would have never in a gazillion years thought we would see a BLACK MAN PRESIDENT OF THE FREE WORLD!! Do we need to go back in history to tell you why?
So excuse us for being a tad bit,,,,
EMOTIONAL..
Carry on..................... I will go back to simply reading..
You are so angry it is unbelievable. The factual inaccuracies with your post are laughable. Gore WAS NOT the first president to win the popular vote and lose the electoral vote. Something like 92 percent of black voters in one state voted Obama. Really, 92 percent? You don't think at least some of those people voted for him because he was black? I think it is ignorance at its finest. I live in the city of atlanta, and I was out last night, listening to black people honk their horns, and scream for Obama. At one point on my walk home from the bar, a group of three black guys run up and scream in my face "OBAMA". I proceeded to ask them to name five of Obama's political "changes" and they couldn't do it. Why did THEY vote for Obama?
palin couldnt name five of mccain's "changes" either...
Why is it not possible to get a straight answer on these boards??
oh BOY...Here we go again...Lets just say everyones opinions of the past Presidents is there opinion...But lets look at the Numbers so to speak. Since Lincoln was the first of the Republican party after he seperated from the Whig party there have been 19 Republicans versus 11 Democrats including Obama. So those numbers dont lie...
If you want to see what President made a mark in history and you only want to bring up the last few, let me refresh your memory a little....
Lincoln....We all know what he did and how good a leader he was.
Grant...... War hero
Theodore Roosevelt...Conservationist, put Lincoln on Penny, the Developement of Panama Canal. Which brought growth and development all over the world.
Dwight David "Ike" Eisenhower...5 star General...Helped Beat the Nazi in WWII as supreme commander of allied forces. Created Social Security and our current Highway system as we know it today.
Nixon and Ford...Ok i will give ya those 2......
Reagan....My hero. Was instrumental in bring the end of USSR and the cold war. Created the now called "Reaganomics" a plan to create tax cuts and let companies hire workers and allow capitalism to run free....Trickle down!
Bush sr.... Probably would have beat clinton if Ross Perot was not running , Also his got a lot of the blame from the People when he couldn't convince the Democratic controlled Congress not to Cut spending instead was forced to raise taxes to cover the Balloning debt. This is where the funny Dana Carvey line from Saturday night live came from" No new Taxes, Wouldn't do it, Wouldn't be Prudent".... If he had what Clinton had a Republica Controlled congress and Newt Gingriches "Contract with America" that Clinton did, maybe things would be different.
GW......Voted for him twice...Did a good job handling September 11th and i feel we are safer thanks to him. Went down hill from there, Lets not Forget that the last 2 years have been horrible. Congress has its lowest approval rating in History to!
Now there are some Great Democrats that were president as well...
Franklin Rosevelt , Harry Truman...
John F Kennedy...Was a great president and ended way to soon. Moved Civil Rights into a new Direction along with Lyndon Johnson..also he championed the exploration of space.
Clinton....Well he was Bill. He had his issues but we made it through it. Championed alot of social services and ideals i dont agree with!
Now, now...
